Home Body

My in-laws had been planning to spend a few days with my kids at their place, which is about four hours from where I live.  They were all excited about seeing their grandkids.  Today was the day.  Well, my son had other ideas.  He simply refused to go.

"I don't want to go.  I'll miss my home, and I'll miss Mama," he told them.

My mother-in-law spent a lot of time trying to convince him to go.  He wouldn't budge.  We decided not to force the issue.  They got my daughter, but not my son.

Now, I was expecting that boy to take off for the pond.  I figured the whole thing was a ploy to go turtle hunting.  But do you know what?  The kid surprised me.  He stayed home all day and played with me.  He didn't even go running off to his friends's house.

What's up with that?  Does this mean I might actually still be wanted?  I think I'm in shock!

  1. I'm sure you're still wanted. Your boy may have just needed some quality time with mom. Then again maybe he was experiencing some kind of separation anxiety. Did you ask him about why he wanted to hang out?

    1. I think he did want some mommy time. But I also think he was starting to itch from the poison ivy he got (see about comment).

  3. I think most kids love having mom all to themselves for a while. You are definitely wanted and loved.

    1. I know he misses the time we used to have when he was in preschool and got out before his sister did. We were always doing something.

  4. you made me remember a time many years ago- we only had three kids at the time--we were going to a local circus but my daughter got sick and i had to stay home with her--well my oldest son would not go with frank and my other son--i never thought that maybe he did just want time with me without his brother :)

  5. I hope the grandparents weren't upset by the change in plans. I'll bet your daughter is enjoying having grandma and grandpa all to herself. I think it's great that you got some one on one time with your son. You are a great mom!

    1. Grandma was pretty upset. My daughter called last night and said she's bored without her brother.
