The Cinnamon Challenge

I think there's something a little wrong with my kids.  Today, I walked into the kitchen and found them huddled over a bowl.  Naturally,  I had to investigate.  I discovered that it was a bowl of cinnamon.  They had dumped an entire container into that thing.

"What are you guys doing?" I asked.

"The cinnamon challenge," said my daughter.

"What is that?" I asked, not really sure if I wanted to know.

"We see who can eat the most cinnamon."

"Seriously?  That's just stupid!"

I watched as they spooned some of that spicy stuff into their mouths.  Immediately, they gagged on it, spewing fine powder all over the place.

I shook my head.  "Okay.  So who won?"

They looked at each other.  "It's a tie!"

Unbelievable!

  1. This is too funny. The other night in bed my husband was on the internet and laughing like crazy. It was a youtube video of some kids eating cinnamon! Did you secretly tape your kids?! haha

    1. No, I didn't. I guess I know where they got their idea from, though!

  2. But it smells so good, how could they know it's better in small amounts and not in its powdery form? Cinnamon has been found to be a relaxant and calming spice. I loved reading that, as I love cinnamon anything, and can get 'hyper' this time of year.

Teach them to make cinnamon toast. I must say, the Cinnamon challenge has a certain ring to it, though. We could all write our fave cinnamon recipe.

    Love your kids' curiosity.

    1. Cinnamon toast is so much better. I guess it's not quite as challenging to eat, though!

    1. Hmmm. I wonder what they could possibly do with it. Cinnamon, coke, and mentos? LOL!

    1. I was surprised they called it a tie. They're usually so competive.

  11. I think eating cinnamon is on YouTube. It seems to be a fad, and not a very intelligent one.

    Love,

  13. Too funny! Maybe they should have tried cinnamon sugar instead. Is it really a fad with kids right now?

    1. Apparently it is a fad. Cinnamon sugar would've definitely been more pallatable!

  14. You've got such a fun filled home. :) I love cinnamon and I like putting them on almost anything (cookies, cake, pastry). The husband hates it and wants them removed all the time. He would have lost that game if he were to compete. :)

  18. Hey...I hate to be all serious, but I remembered as soon as I read this reading somewhere else that something was dangerous about it. So I Googled it and found this:

Doctors say the challenge (Swallowing a spoonful without water) is impossible because the cinnamon cannot be digested without water and warn that by inhaling the cinnamon dust teens run the risk of inflaming or scarring their lungs.

“If you have some fine particles, like cinnamon in your lungs, it may be hard to clear out,” said Dr. Robert Zaid of Providence Hospital in Mobile, Ala.

”Your lungs can kind of collapse on you. There have been several cases reported where kids needed ventilator support because they weren’t able to maintain their airway after this challenge.”

Figured you would want the heads up!!

  19. Ick! Well, at least it was a tie and no one was left fighting over who won. And yes, what about the mess?
