Closet Raid

Today is picture day at school.  This morning, my eleven-year-old daughter went through her closet, looking for something to wear. "Mom, I don't have anything good for picture day."

I walked in her room and checked out the situation.  "You have plenty of clothes."  I pulled a few tops out.

"I can't wear those!" she exclaimed.

"Why not?"

"They're not fashionable," she said, and then added, "We have to go shopping."

"Girlfriend," I said.  "It's seven o'clock in the morning.  You're not going shopping.  Just find something!"

Ten minutes later she came downstairs.  I looked at the girl.  The top she had on looked kind of familiar.  "Isn't that mine?" I asked.

"Yeah.  It was the most decent thing I could find."

(So, I guess I'm not so unfashionable after all! )

  1. But she'll probably never admit it. :)

    Happy Tuesday!

  2. Things are looking up when they decide Mom's fashion sense just may be better than her own novice sense of style. (plus if no one's seen it at her school, who's to know?)

  3. It is a compliment, although get ready, because once the floodgates of clothes borrowing are opened, they are difficult to close.

    1. Yeah - until she gets a lot bigger than me and they don't fit!

  5. Oh, dear. The Hurricane never, ever would have worn my clothes. (My things were too small for her.) I'm afraid that if you don't establish rules that your clothes will disappear until you have absolutely nothing to wear on picture day, or whatever the adult equivalent is.

    1. I'm going to have to keep close tabs on that girl so I don't end up with an empty closet!

  7. On the other hand, she said it was the "most decent thing" she could find.
So....you may still be going shopping.

    1. You're right. Perhaps I'm not quite as fashionable as I'd like to think. ;)

    1. But as Al said, she classified it as "decent" not stunning. :)

  10. I know how she feels some days when you look in the closet full of clothes and still have nothing to wear (or that you want to wear). That's awesome she found something of yours. :)

  15. What a compliment to you and your fashion sense. Do your kids have school pictures done twice a year? I seem to remember my son always having his school pictures done in the Fall because I used to include them in the Christmas cards I mailed out.

    1. My kids have pictures twice a year - fall and spring. The fall ones are included in the yearbook. I'm not sure why they do spring - probably to get more money!

  16. Hi, I fully intended to give up blogging due to the problems I have experienced, I wrote an email to Alex and Arlee Bird , Alex replied which set me thinking, I have already got my A to Z completed, I had many friends so after sleeping on it decided to give it yet another go. I have been blogging since 2006 but am starting from scratch again.I hope you understand and if I have messed up I have only myself to blame.

I recall my kids having school photo's, my daughter was a proper tomboy and she always looked as though she had just got out of bed on her photo's.
    Enjoyed your post.
    Yvonne.

  17. Haha! Looks like you'll have to invest in a lock for your closet if you don't want her to steal everything you wear. XD
