Stuck Necklace

My daughter had another dance competition today. (She did well -another double platinum rating.)  We had to get up at the crack of dawn to be there for an early performance.  Unfortunately, the hotel we stayed at was rather noisy.  Neither of us slept much.  Needless to say, it wasn't easy to get the hair and makeup done!  Since I had all kinds of issues with that, my daughter insisted on putting her choker rhinestone neckace on herself.

"Fine," I said.  "My eyes are probably to bleary to see the clasp, anyway."

She got it on no problem.  But when we got home, and she tried to take it off, it wouldn't budge.  "Mom, it's stuck!  Can you you get it off?"

I took a look at it.  It was a hopeless cause.  I'm not sure how she did it, but the latch is permanently stuck on one of the links.  "I can't figure this out," I said.  "Just take a shower and leave the thing on.  I'll look at it again, later." That's what she did.

So ladies and gentlemen, does anybody who isn't as sleep-deprived as me have any suggestions?  I really don't want to destroy the thing.  Her next competition is in a couple of weeks, and I'm afraid a replacement won't come in on time.  Here's my idea:  I'm going to go take a little nap.  Maybe the answer will come to me in a dream. If you have a better plan, let me know!

Good night!

  1. My daughter took dance lessons for 15 years. Recitals, competitions, parents observations, etc. All for the low, low price of a couple hundred dollars a month. Last year was her last, as she's now in college. While I don't miss the frenzy (of which I KNOW you're very familiar), I still miss seeing my little girl do a soft-shoe or tap dance to whatever song is most popular at the time or was popular "back in the day." It seems like yesterday that she was 3 years old and dancing to Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking." Sunrise, sunset, I suppose.
As far as the stuck necklace, sorry, I got nuttin'.
I am a man, after all. If I can't fix it with duct tape, it can't be fixed.

    1. Haha! I'm sure you're good at breaking things, so maybe we should break it first and then duct tape it. ;)

  2. Sherry, solutions to problems sometimes come to me in my dreams. So don't discount it. My daughter and I were up at the crack of dawn too, for band. So I feel your pain. Congrats on the dance win and good luck with the necklace. :)

  3. Well, maybe the clasp would come off if you put some kind of oil on it, but then you might just end up with a greasy mess. What about stopping in a jewelry store (the kind with a real jeweler), and say, Please Help! Jewelers can often work magic.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Fortunately, I didn't have to do that, but that is a good suggestion. Thanks!

  4. My best suggestion is let Schultz at it, but then he'd prob just eat it.

    1. After my nap, I wasn't so bleary-eyed, and was able to release the clasp. It wasn't easy, though!

  6. Yay for your daughter! I have no idea about the necklace. Let your son at it. He might ask for a blowtorch, but it will make for an interesting story! :)

    1. My son and a blowtorch? Not a good combination! I managed to get the necklace off, so no blowtorch will be needed! ;)

  8. I hope you were able to figure out a solution to the problem. Mine would have been to cut it off and restring it.

    1. After my nap, I took a look at it again. I was able to twist the clasp into a position that allowed me to release the lever. It took a little muscle, but thankfully, I got the job done!
