What I Learned at the All School Sing

I showed up yesterday at my kids' school for the All School Sing wearing my pink sunglasses, because my boy had said it was wacky sunglasses day.  Except I didn't see anyone wearing wacky sunglasses.  They were wearing tacky tourist shirts.  I asked somebody what was up with that.  "It's tacky tourist day," a nice lady said.

Oh.  Duped by my son.  Okay.  So I was the tacky tourist wearing wacky sunglasses.  No big deal!

Anyway, I found a seat and listened to the nice boys and girls sing about short vowels, and habitats, and silent e's, and the fifty states, and all the presidents.  It was a lot of information to cram into my punitive brain!

When my kids got home they asked if I enjoyed the show.   "Yes," I said.  "I was impressed with how everybody was able to sing the fifty states in order and go through the list of presidents."

"Did you learn anything, Mom?"  my daughter asked.

"Yes.  I learned two things.  One, never believe Bubba when he says it's wacky sunglasses day, and two, I should go back to school so I can sing the names of all the presidents in order just like you!"

  1. Oh, boy. Remember my comment that Bubba had you fooled? Maybe he actually thought it was wacky sunglasses day, though. Singing makes learning so much easier. I always taught my Sunday School students songs with the books of the Bible.

    1. It is amazing how setting facts to music makes it easier to learn them.

  9. I don't recall the names of the presidents in order anymore. At least sunglasses kind of go with the tacky tourist theme.

    1. I don't recall ever learning the names of the presidents in order. Same with the states. Hmmm. I think my parents should get their money back from that rip off school!

  10. Isn't it funny how sometimes kids know things that we can't even remember?

  11. LOL. What a sneaky one that Bubba is. : )

  12. Sneaky, sneaky Bubba! At least the day was still wacky in some way, so your sunglasses weren't too out of place amongst all the tourist shirts!

  13. Just back from my daughter's high school concert... I hope she never gets Bubba's idea and make me into a fool, but I think by this age, they would be horrified if I came dressed differently.

  16. Sounds like they did a great job! My history teacher at school could recite all the kings and queens of England, with dates. Not easy. And yes, all your entries here would make a great book!

    1. Wow! Dates too? That definitely would not be easy!

  17. I think it worked out since tourists do wear some crazy sunglasses. A song about the Presidents is a good way to memorize them.

  18. How did I miss learning to sing all the presidents when I was in school?! So much for a thorough musical education! ;)

Tacky glasses can almost be synonymous with tacky t's, so I'm sure you still fit in! Well played though Bubba!

  20. At least you stood out in cute sunglasses...right?

I forgot all that stuff once I hit adulthood. It would be cool learning all those things again.

    1. I'd say I definitely resembled a tacky tourist.

I think it would be cool to learn all those little songs. I don't know what I'd do with the information, though!
