Bologna Faces

Kids like to play with food.  It's inevitable.  I can't tell you how many milk bubbles I've seen in my life as a mom!  A couple of years ago, my kids were sitting at the kitchen table having lunch.  A bologna sandwich was sitting in front of them.  I watched as my son took out the slice of bologna and poked a hole through it with his finger.

"What are you doing, Bubba?" I asked.

"You'll see."  He poked another hole across from the first.  Then he poked another.   When he was done, he held it up to his face.  "How do you like my bologna face, Mama?"

I shook my head.  "Nice, Bubba."

My daughter thought that was an excellent idea, too, so she made a bologna face.  Soon both of my offspring were sporting bologna faces.

"You kids are full of bologna!" I said.

"No, we're not," my son said.  Then he ate his bologna face.  "But now I am!"

    1. If they liked olives, they probably would. They're not big olive fans.

  2. Oh man I used to do this. I wonder why my kids never did. Still to be a kid and take pleasure in the smallest of things.

    1. I don't think my kids have ever done that. Maybe I'll try it. ;0)

  5. It sounds like you roll with the flow pretty well. I don't remember my parents having a lot of patience for playing with food (when we were older). My mom has hilarious baby photos of me covered in beets... but that is baby stuff.

  6. Being able to make bologna faces makes up for the lack of nutrition in the bologna itself! I've always loved bologna and just assumed everyone made faces with it. :)

  7. LOL My kids do things like that, too!

  8. I remember when my kids made bologna faces...these are the real joys of childhood, like playing in cardboard boxes :)

  10. Kids are spontaneous!
They could teach us adults how to have fun... it would be lovely, minus the messy factor, of course...

    1. It's too bad we adults have to get so serious. Maybe we all should make bologna faces!

    1. My mom yelled at me for playing with food, so I don't think I made too many bologna faces.

  15. Ah, so that's where the phrase came from. Don't all kids do that. I did that. Bologna is one of my favorite luncheon meats. Way to go kids. :-)

  17. Would you ever consider pictures with some of these fun posts? Bologna faces would be great fun to see and we wouldn't be seeing their real faces. Though I understand, some bloggers don't want pictures of their families on the Internet.

    Cheers and boogie boogie.

    1. I am trying to protect my kids a little, so I don't post pictures of them here. The bologna face picture probably would've been a good one, but I didn't take a picture of it when it happened.

    2. I thought that might be the reason, which I totally get. But yeah, bummer about the bologna faces. That would have been fun to see, and hid them.

Double bummer, no pictures for yourself either. Though I'm sure if asked, Bubba would do it again in a heart beat. Though I see him doing a ham face, turkey face, all kinds of fun faces.
