Party Time and Giveaway

First, thank you once again to everyone who blitzed me over the last few days!  You guys are awesome!  Thanks to all the new followers, too.  Welcome to my pad!

To celebrate reaching over 400 followers, I'm going to have a give-away - three Amazon gift cards and two copies of each of my books.  Just leave a comment below. (If you really, really, really would like a book, please let me know.  Some of you already have my books, so I don't want to give you something you already have.)  I'll  choose the winners on Thursday.

All right.  Now for the story.  It has been a crazy couple of weeks at my place.  I had been preparing for a super ginormous birthday party for my daughter.  It went very well, but now my dog (pictured above) and I are rather exhausted from the whole experience.

Thirty teenage girls swarmed the house, blasting music, singing, screaming, dancing, and making cheer leading pyramids wherever they found space. (I nearly had a heart attack when I saw a pyramid three-people high in my family room.) This insanity went on until 3:00 in the morning.  At that time, my husband and I had had enough, and we sent all living creatures to bed - including the dog, who was having a great time chasing everybody. (In case you're wondering, that is a glow-stick necklace around Schultz's body.  It was a neon-themed party, and everybody was running around  glowing under the light of several black lights.)

Now, I have to back up a little bit, because this party almost didn't happen.  The night before, I looked up at my kitchen ceiling, and notice a few drips of water coming down.

I called my husband.  "Oh @#$%%^&!" he said.  "You've got to be  @#$%^&* kidding me!"

Yep.  It was raining in our kitchen.  This had happened six months ago.  And here we were again.  The night before the big party.  My husband pulled out the drill and made holes in our ceiling.  Water poured out.  I won't tell you what else he said, but I'm sure you can guess.

We did our best to clean things up, and we called a repair man to fix the pipe that busted.  But we still have a substantial hole in our ceiling (along with lots of tiny drill holes).

And do you know what the funny thing is?  Not one girl noticed!   They were all too busy partying!

  1. That's in the category of "Not my problem!" when you're a teen girl, ready to party. Sorry about the leak!

  2. Is that called, going with 'the flow'? You have excellent adaptive abilities, and teens don't notice much outside themselves and their peers! Congrats on gaining more followers, you deserve it.

Thanks for your kind comment, too!

  3. You are definitely a 'cool mom' to have such a party for your daughter's birthday and with 30 teenage girls - oh my! I guess one way to look at the ceiling problem is that it didn't wait until the night of the party and happen in the middle of the family room ceiling. :) Congrats to those who win a copy of your books - they're so adorable and funny.

    1. Yes. That would've been bad - water dripping in the chocolate fountain! They would've surely noticed that!

  4. Of course they didn't notice! Only if you've covered the hole with a picture of the latest boy band would they have seen it.
Sorry about the busted pipe but glad you survived the party.
    Congratulations on four hundred followers!

    1. They were occupied with the chocolate fountain, so they didn't even notice the gaping hole above their heads! Thanks for the congratulatory remark. I have a long way to go to catch up with you, though!

    1. Yeah. Schultzy can be in pictures. I try to maintain a bit of privacy for my family, though, so it's a very rare occasion that you see any pictures from me.

    1. Schultz was unbelievably pooped. He had a good time - as did everyone else. And yes, my Navy soldier husband has the mouth of a sailor at times - especially when it's raining in the house! ;0)

  7. 400 followers - what an accomplishment! 100 is still a dream for me at this point. Would love to win either prize, though I'm not sure the Amazon card would work in Canada...?

Brave to host 30 young ladies. And you survived!! Congratulations!

Hope this is the end of your water troubles as well.

  9. Wow, you're brave to have that many girls in your house! My girls have had up to 3 friends at a time and that is plenty for me, but it sounds like it was a great time! Glad the kitchen rain didn't ruin the party.

It rained in my store on Saturday. I was supposed to check back with maitence and the security desk yesterday to see if they had fixed it yet. I still haven't done it. Whoops.

Also... I like free things... Just throwing that information out there. haha

  14. Oh, I'm sure they loved being at your house for the big party! I remember those days. I had a cool mom too:) Bless you for putting up with them til 3am! Boys are much quieter=X-box, eating from the frig til everything is gone, setting arrows on fire and practicing their target skills. :)

    1. Yes. When my son has parties, the boys park themselves in front of the XBox and play video games!

  16. Wow. No one noticed? That's insane.

I completely get the whole "noise" aspect. We just said goodbye to our last house guests (out of 18 out-of-towners), and I finally get my house TO MYSELF. YAY! We've only been here for 3 weeks, hosting for 2 of those. Oye!

I hope your house repairs are permanent this time.

  19. Glad the girls had a fantastic time. It says a lot that not one noticed the ceiling! I will add some swear words to your husband's for that dang water leak.

  20. Not one girl noticed! That's hilarious. But who looks at ceilings anyway? You are beyond brave to host that many screaming girls. The five I had over for my daughter's 10th b-day about screamed me deaf.

    1. Speaking about being screamed deaf, I just went to a One Direction concert last night. Imagine 70,000 girls screaming! Oy!
