World's Worst Tooth Fairy

My husband is not the tooth fairy.  I know this for a fact.  A couple of nights ago, some time after 11:00 PM, my son lost his tooth.  Or I should say, yanked it out.  He proudly marched downstairs and presented the bloody thing to my husband, who was still watching TV.

"Make sure the tooth fairy comes, Dad!" Bubba said.

Well, the tooth fairy didn't come, because the tooth fairy was already in bed, and had no idea that she was needed on the job.

The next morning, when I was making breakfast, my daughter came downstairs.  "Mom," she said.  "Dad forgot to be the tooth fairy.  You need to get up there and do it!"

"Bubba lost a tooth?" I asked.

"Yeah.  He woke me up, so I heard all about it," she said.

I quickly found some cash in my purse and rushed upstairs to take the tooth.  Fortunately, the boy was still sleeping.

Ten minutes later, I officially woke him up.  Of course, he had to check to see if the tooth fairy came.  He was quite pleased when he saw the cash.  "I guess Dad's not the world's worst tooth fairy," he said.

Right!

  4. Hehe, I remember those times so well! Worst was the time my daughter lost her tooth down the plug hole when cleaning her teeth. She wrote a letter explaining what had happened to the tooth fairy. Aww, bless her.

    1. Sounds a little like when my son lost his tooth while eating a piece of pizza. He swallowed it. He had to write a letter explaining that his mom was not interested in going through his poop to retrieve it.

  5. Three cheers for mom!

Many years ago, my parents happened to be in from out of state visiting us when our older boy lost a tooth. We were so busy playing cards, talking, laughing, and "catching up," that nasty ol' tooth fairy forgot to do his/her duty not ONE time, but TWO nights in a row! Yeah, I know. Terrible. I told our son to write a note for the tooth fairy and stick in on the fridge with a magnet. It was the funniest thing you ever read... we still have it. And the tooth fairy finally came through. (Third time's the charm.)

  7. What would the world do without moms? Without you, Dad would have probably just said, "Ah, there's no such thing as the Tooth Fairy. Here's some cash. Go to school."

    1. I think he was eight when he started asking, and I told him the truth. It took him until he was almost ten to accept it, though.

    2. I remember you posting about him knowing the truth. Funny that he still reminds you guys though. Too much.

    1. Haha! I didn't bother telling the dad. We'll just keep his ego intact!

  12. Hum, anything that involves staying up past the children or getting up in the middle of the night seems to best be suited for the female of the species. Men are only good at staying up all night if they are not at the house.

    1. Hahaha! That is too funny! (Yes, I was the one who got up at 3:30 yesterday morning to clean my son's vomit. There's no way his dad would ever to such a thing!)
