One Lovely Blog Award

I hope all of you had a really nice Christmas!  My family and I certainly did.

Today, I need to tie up a loose end.  My author friend and awesome critique partner from Cincinnati, Diana Jenkins, nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award.  Thank you so much, Diana!

I'm supposed to tell you seven things about me, and then nominate 15 people for this award.  I'll do the first part, but since I don't exactly follow rules, I'm going to skip the second part.  If you've never received this award, please feel free to take it, because I think you're all lovely bloggers!

Here we go.  Seven things about me:

1. I'm ambidextrous.  I don't think it really does me any good though, because no matter which hand I write with, it all comes out like slop.  (My daughter is also ambidextrous, but she generally writes with her left hand, whereas I generally write with my right.  My son?  I don't think he's any handed, because he inherited my illegibility gene, and neither hand writes well.)

2.  German food makes me sick.  I'm sorry all of you fine friends in Germany, but I just can't eat your food.  Every time I visit Germany, I get food poisoning.  You guys have some kind of lethal combination of soft boiled eggs, sauerkraut and beer, that my poor tummy just can't handle.  So if I go to Germany, I stop at a store and get Erdnusse (peanut butter), bread, and a bottle of water.  And then I'm fine.

3.  I've moved ten times in my life.  And honestly, I'm a little tired of it.  I guess it's a good excuse to clean out the house, though.  If I never moved, I'd hate to see what kind of collection of needless stuff I'd have!

4.  Here's one I've never shared:  I've ruptured my eardrum twice.  Both from SCUBA diving.  Talk about painful!  I guess I'm lucky not to have any permanent damage. That would be bad, especially since I'm a professional musician!

5.  Some of you already know this, but for the new people, I used to be a figure skater.  I had big dreams of going to the Olympics.  That was almost thirty years ago.  The funny thing is, today I went roller blading with my son.   I couldn't even go backwards on those things. (Yes, I could still go forward.)  How in the world did I ever manage to spin and do triple lutzes back then on ice skates?

6.  I enjoy learning languages.  It's like putting together a puzzle.  I like seeing how languages are related.  Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to study and keep up with the languages I did learn, but I know bits and pieces of seven languages.

7.  It's no surprise that I enjoy music, and I play several instruments.  I just got a ukulele for Christmas, so I'm going to see if I can figure out how to play it.  Then maybe I'll take a trip to Hawaii, sit on a beach, and play it. That would be fun!

So what about you?  Have you ever visited a country and gotten food poisoning?  Any special interests or hobbies?

  1. You've moved ten times? Ten times is a charm... I've ruptured my eardrum once from ridiculously loud music at a party I'd rather forget than remember.

  2. You seem like a very talented person ;) I try to have many talents, but it's a struggle. I can play guitar, but only chords. I can play three riffs on the piano and they're no very smooth. I can count to 10 in five languages and have a very basic conversation in Italian, but that's about it.

My friend Jason is a virtuoso on piano, is a vocal coach, spent three weeks in Vietnam and came back speaking it fluently and is a very snappy dresser. I'm jealous of him ;)

    1. Your friend, Jason, sounds impressive. Maybe he can teach you a few things.

  3. Go back to figure skating. I want to watch you in the next winter Olympics. Lots of foods make me sick. I have a sensitive tummy. My special interest is Willy Dunne Wooters.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Go back to figure skating? Do you really want to watch me break my neck on public TV? ;0) (I think I'm going to go to the local skating rink, just to see if I can still do any old tricks on ice skates. Just for my own amusement.)

  7. Food poisoning is no fun! Rollerblading is soooo different from ice skating. It's just like the old roller skates I used to have. Those feel so different on the foot compared to the rollerblades of today. I miss my roller skates. :)

    1. Roller blades are so heavy compared to ice skates. I feel like a total klutz in them.

    1. I've gotten a lot of these awards, so I've said a lot of the same stuff, but it's good for people who are relatively new followers. It's always interesting to learn a little about the people you're friends with in the blog world.

  10. Ouch! I bet a ruptured eardrum does hurt.
I've moved over a dozen times. Been in the same town for a while now, which is nice.
    Congratulations on the award!

    1. That's a lot of moving. It's nice when you can hang out in one place for a while and have good friends. But then again, it's nice to meet new people, and have friends all over the place.

  11. I didn't know you were a figure skater, wow! Very interesting to read. That's a lot of moving. The fun part is, you got to decorate ten times?

  12. Eardrum, ouch. Painful. Me too on the number one, although it does me a world of good and it thrills me to use both hands, being all the creative stuff I do.

    Happy 2015.

  13. Congratulations for the Lovely Award. Thanks for willing to share it with every one.
Food poisoning ? I did not have to go very far, just across the bridge in Dutchess County where a friend had ordered food from outside and sure enough it was tasty but I guess - - - stale.

  14. Can you play your instruments with either hand? Can you hear the music well despite that pesky ear drum? Happy New Year, Sherry!

    1. Only keyboard instruments. I've never attempted a left handed violin. Yes, I can hear well, although I do have tinnitus, which is very annoying. Hope you have a fantastic 2015, Milo!

  15. No, but I did try and fail at ice skating in Germany, 20 years ago. That was my only attempt. Have a great 2015!

  16. Congrats on the award, and those are some cool facts! I'm ambidextrous as well, but I usually just teach myself to use one hand for a certain task depending on which feels better and just kinda stick with it. So I prefer to throw/catch left-handed, but I write right-handed. No clue which hand I'd use to play the ukulele...

    1. Haha! My guess is you'd have to strum with your right. Have a great New Year!

  17. What fascinating facts! I went to Germany 22 years ago and didn't get along well with the food either. If I make it back there I will try it again, but I will keep the peanut butter in mind too! :)

Glad your bursting eardrums didn't cause permanent hearing damage. It sounds super painful!

    1. That's interesting that you didn't get along with German food. It's good to know it's not just me!

I'm really glad I didn't have permanent damage from the eardrum rupture. It is very painful, and your sense of balance goes right out the door when it happens!

  18. I love this post - it's nice to learn more about you.

...and I accidentally deleted one of your comments on my blog with my big fingers as I read on my phone in the car! I'm sure nothing was wrong with it - and I didn't even get a chance to read it before I accidentally deleted it. I'm a traveling klutz, ha ha.
