Exploding Watermelons

My teenage daughter is having a birthday party this weekend. She gave me a list of things she wants for it. At the top of the list was watermelons.

"You're going to eat watermelon?" I asked.

"Yeah, but first we're going to explode it."

"What?" I couldn't wait to hear what kind of ridiculous thing she had planned.

"Make sure you get a whole watermelon. And rubber bands. We're going to wrap rubber bands around  the watermelon and watch it explode. It'll be cool."

And messy.

So, ladies and gentlemen, what I will be doing this weekend is watching a bunch of teenagers explode watermelons. If you'd like to see one for yourself, here's a video:

  1. I never would've thought of putting a hundred rubber bands on a watermelon would do that. But hey, if it will keep the girls occupied for quite a while, go for it.

  2. haha at least it gives them something to do. Couldn't that hurt though if it explodes in ones face?

  9. If I were having a party, and if I were a teenager, I would figure out a way to put vodka in the watermelon. Beware, Mama!

  13. What a wonderful mum you are. I can only imagine what my mam would have had to say if my sister was to have suggested this. I say my sister as I'd have much preferred to eat the melon.

  14. When you said exploding watermelons, I initially thought using it like a pinata or maybe even sticking m80s or something into it and blowing it up. I never would have thought about using rubber bands. That was awesome!
