Sassy Siri

In case you don't know, Siri is a computer generated voice that answers any question you might have. You just talk into your smart device, and Siri recognizes what you say. It's pretty remarkable technology. Some of the answers can be a little questionable. And snarky. Like the answer my son got when he asked Siri what zero divided by zero was.

Here's what Siri said:  "Imagine that you have zero cookies, and you split them evenly among zero friends. How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense.

“And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.”

Well, isn't that just terrible.

"Mama," my son said after he heard it. "You need to go make some cookies, and I need to get my friends. Then nobody will be sad."

Makes sense to me!

  1. Siri is sometimes snarky! And if the question is weird enough, so is the answer.

    1. I've heard Siri give some pretty strange answers, but this one really takes the cake. (Or the cookie?)

  4. I'm completely in the dark about Siri. I thought she only gave directions like a car. I love how your son thought to fix the problem!

  5. Your son's response was great. I had to try it after seeing this post and I got the same response! Definitely not the nicest comment- no reason to mention someone not having friends. I am now curious about responses to other questions...

  8. I've heard about Siri, but since I don't have any of those hi-tech electronic gadgets, I've never "met" her. After reading this, now I want to, because it'd be fun to ask her questions like this just to see how she'd respond. Nothing like a snarky gadget!

    1. Whoever programmed her, certainly has a sense of humor.

  9. Okay, I had to ask that same question to my Siri and I got the same answer. But isn't it comforting that Siri recognizes our pain of loneliness? :)

  10. Just make sure to enunciate carefully. I once wrote about what happened when a student asked for pictures of ships (for a project in history class).

  16. Siri's logic is alright, but your son's logic is absolutely on point.

  17. I only know of Siri through the Big Bang Theory. Cortana is our Nokia phone's version.
