Bobbing for What?

My son still likes the game, bobbing for apples. He gets his friends together, and they go outside to do it. It doesn't matter if it's Halloween, Valentines Day, or an average day. The other day, which was an average day, he decided fill up the pail and have a go at it.

He pulled out something from the refrigerator, filled the bucket with water, and went outside with his friends.

When he and his friends came back in the house, they were soaked.

"What did you do?" I asked. "Soak your entire head?"

My son grinned. "Those apples were kind of hard to get. They didn't bob so well."

I narrowed my eyes and went outside to see exactly what he was talking about.

I shook my head when I pulled out what was in the bucket.

I held up the thing. "Dude, what do you think this is?"

"An apple?"

"No, Dude. It's a plum."

  1. It should have been easier - they are smaller.

  3. I suspect he just wanted to get cooler by dunking his whole head in the bucket. I wonder if there are any physics behind this. . .is an apple lighter than a plum?

  5. Plumming for apples? I bobbed for apples once. I think I was in the fifth grade, and the room mothers had a Halloween party for our class. It didn't take long until the spit or slobber or whatever you want to call it was visible in the water. I was a good sport and took my turn, but I've never wanted to bob in someone else's drool again.

    Love,
    Janie

  6. Ah, plums... Takes me back to my childhood and the plum tree we had in the backyard. Your son wouldn't have had a hard time bobbing for those, as I could have given him several dozen to play with.

  9. Hi, Sherry!

You say Bubba bobs for apples at times of the year other than Halloween? I'm pretty sure that's against the law in your state. I might have to make a citizen's arrest! :)

When I was a kid I loved to bob for apples at H-ween parties. I never tried "plunging for plums." :) I wonder if Bubba intends to try bobbing for watermelons. :)

    Happy Tuesday, dear friend Sherry!

  12. What a funny story. Plums are kind of slippery and hard to catch when they're floating around, I imagine. :)

  13. HA! Well, now he knows. Plus, he and his friends were a lot cooler than before. (Gives a whole new meaning to "Go soak your head.")

  14. I've never bobbed for apples, or plums, on account of not being able to swim. Don't want to drown, you know. And hey, at least he wasn't bobbing for cantaloupes.

  15. Hysterical! I take it that plums are harder to catch? I'm curious now, but not curious enough to go grab a bucket.

  16. Hehehe, maybe he's just going for a variety. :)

  17. LOL! Hey, the fact you had plums on hand is impressive to me. Actually, I have to keep my fruit in the locked fridge so it doesn't disappear at ridiculous speeds. (Thank you to the crazy kid who give me all my quotables.)
