Turducken

First of all, I'd like to wish all of my American friends a very Happy Thanksgiving!

As I was preparing our traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey and the fixings, my son came up and made a face. "We're having turkey, again?"

I made a face back at him. "Of course we are. It's Thanksgiving. We eat turkey on Thanksgiving."

"We should try something different."

"Like what?"

"Turducken."

"What?" That sounded like some alien life form.

"It's a turkey stuffed with duck and chicken."

I thought he was making this up. "There's no such thing, Bubba. Don't be ridiculous."

He grabbed his handy dandy computer and pulled up a picture. "Here it is!"

Okay. Well, it's a real thing. But if you ask me, it looks like a turkey, but with a whole lot more work involved. I'm just going to stick with our traditional turkey, thank you very much!

(Has anyone ever tried this? I wonder how it tastes.)

  1. I have heard of turducken. If Bubba wants one, put him in charge of preparing it!

  4. I have a friend that has this every thanksgiving... they love it... to me it is too much meat... Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Sherry xox (I do love our little blogging community)

    1. I think it looks like way too much meat, too. But I'm glad some people like it.

  5. I have legitimately NEVER had the urge to try Turducken. The concept just wasn't appealing. I will, instead, stick to 6 very careful hours of roasting a single bird. haha

    1. It doesn't look very appealing to me, either! I'll stick to the single bird, too.

  6. Hi, Sherry!

I started writing this with 3 minutes left before the day expires, so I need to quickly wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving! :) I'm very late getting back on the blogs today because I spent the day traveling and feasting in another part of the state.

I never heard of Turducken and, from the look of it, I don't think I'd want to see it in front of me on the dinner table. When it comes to stuffing a turkey I'm sure there are countless combinations people have tried. I'm going to google Turcantlic (turkey stuffed with cantaloupe and licorice) and find out if it's a thing. :)

Thanks for the entertaining story, dear friend Sherry!

    1. Wow! I don't think I would have lost sleep trying to catch up on blogs, but I certainly appreciate the effort to stop by and wish your friends a Happy Thanksgiving! Turcantlic might be a new thing. If not, you can start it and tell me how it is. ;)

  7. Sound like you had a lot of fun, Sherry. I love all three meats - separate. If I did give into pressure though, I'd buy it already prepared and ready to go in the oven. Like you say, it just looks like a load more work - not worth it :) Have a lovely weekend.

    1. It does look like a lot of work. Not sure I'd ever want to deal with it.

  8. Your son certainly cmes up with some ideas Sherry. I think I would stick with turkey.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  9. I don't like to mix meat... But it's been a while since I have had duck--I wish I had thought of that for yesterday, maybe Christmas?

    1. I'm not a huge fan of duck. I don't think I'd ever want to make turducken. But if someone else did, I might try it just to see what it's like.

  10. I heard of turducken a few years ago and thought the person who told me about it totally made it up until I saw something about it on Food Network. It sounds like a lot of work to me!

Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. It does seem like something that's made up. I was surprised to see it was real, too.

  11. I haven't heard of it and wouldn't make it. I didn't cook at all this year. Willy Dunne Wooters and I went out to eat. I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

    Love,

I had a very nice Thanksgiving. I hope you and Willy Dunne Wooters did too.

  13. I've heard of turduckens before, but never tried one. Way too abnormal for a picky eater like me, LOL.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  15. Sherry, hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I had heard of turducken before but never tried it. I think I actually heard of it on a TV show but not sure which one. Not surprised Bubba knew about it. :)

    1. Yes, the word is rather fun. You'll have to start calling it 'turducken' where you live. Maybe the name will catch on.

  17. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Let us know if you ever try the Turducken. I also saw a picture of a cake stuffed with an apple pie, a pumpkin pie, and a pecan pie. Yikes!

  18. I'm with you. Keep it simple. That stuffed bird does not qualify for simple. Hope your day was great without the Turduken.

    1. Yes. Three birds and stuffing is way to complex for me!

We survived quite nicely on just turkey. ;)

    1. Haha! The turkey isn't too tough. It's all the casseroles and other stuff that are so time consuming to make. And getting everything to be ready at the same time is a good trick!
