A Little Celebration

If you live in the United States, you may have heard that the Atlanta Falcons won their last football game and are heading to the Super Bowl. I live in Atlanta, so we're all pretty excited about this.

My son, Bubba, who is an avid football player and fan, was probably more excited than anyone else in my family. He had to have a celebration. This involved a bottle of Coke.

I walked into the kitchen and saw the boy vigorously shaking a single-serve bottle of the carbonated beverage. "What are you doing?" I asked. "You're going to make it explode!"

He grinned. "That's the point! There aren't any bottles of champagne around here, so Coke is the next best thing!"

I rolled my eyes. "If you're going to open it, please do it over the sink!"

He complied. Ten seconds later, and explosive spray of soda came out of that bottle.

"Cheers, Mama!"

Yeah. Cheers.

(Fortunately, the cleanup wasn't too bad. It could've been worse. He could've added Mentos!)

  1. I'm glad the cleanup wasn't too bad. Since my Steelers lost, I'm rooting for the Falcons in the Super Bowl. :)

  2. Ahhh, I've missed your silly family stories!

I've heard Diet Coke and Mentos work better (or worse, I guess, if you're the one cleaning up).

    1. So good to see you again! I'm not posting as much, so you won't see daily stories, but you'll still get a few laughs.

  3. Don't give him any ideas.
Atlanta has never won a Super Bowl, so hope they do it this year.

    1. Even if I wasn't living in Atlanta, I'd still want to see the Falcons win.

  5. Hi, Sherry!

Congratulations to your Atlanta Falcons, now headed to the Super Bowl. The Pats have had more than their share of glory in past years, so I am rooting for the Georgia birds. I can picture Bubba taking a simulated champagne shower substituting a bottle of coke. If the Falcons win the big game, he'll need to graduate from single-serve size to the liter bottle! :)

    Happy Tuesday, dear friend Sherry!

  8. That... actually sounds like a great way to celebrate. Cheers to your team for making the big game! We'll definitely be rooting for you, if only because we can't stand the Patriots.

  9. Cute! I hope Atlanta wins. I am so tired of the Patriots. It would be great for the Falcons to win their first title and send the Pats packing. :)

  17. LOL. My mom decided to surprise us one New Year and do that with a bottle of sparkling cider...which she didn't open over the sink. She said she was still cleaning it up two years later. =)

    1. I believe it! I was getting ready for a party once, and a two liter bottle of soda fell out of the refrigerator and exploded. We were cleaning soda spots off the ceiling two years later!

  18. So sticky to clean up. I'm glad your advice to open the bottle over the sink didn't fall on deaf ears.

  19. Ahhh! I have put mentos in soda and it is quite an effect! I am sure that it is best to keep things over the sink.

    1. I've seen that effect. My husband and son conducted an Mentos-Coke experiment a few years ago. Very interesting!

  25. Hi Sherry. Just read what you wrote on Janie's blog and tried to reply to your comment but blogger wouldn't let me! Anyway, I wanted to say that I totally agree and good for you for saying what you did. Maybe they should drive through in inner city of Chicago and they'd see what they were mocking.
