Ear Assault
Here's a little news before I begin my story about something you might want to do if you're an author:
Milo James Fowler is hosting a Freebies special – Tis More Blessed. “If you have a book/eBook/short story/collection you'd like to give away or raffle off on Friday December 6th, Friday the 13th, Friday the 20th, or Friday the 27th, just enter your name and the date(s) of your giveaway under Link Title.”
I'll be giving away copies of my books on each of the Fridays, so be sure to stop by at my place, and all the other author's places for a chance to win books.
And now for the story:
I was driving my kids around town today. We had several stops, which meant they had to spend a lot of time in the car. To break the monotony, they decided it would be great fun to belt out songs that were on the radio.
I grimaced. "Kids, that's insulting to my ears! Can you be a little quieter and less scratchy?"
"No, Mama," my son said. "I'm going to be the best singer in the world! I need to practice."
"Yeah, mom. We're rock stars!" my daughter chimed in.
They shouted the lyrics at the top of their lungs.
"Could you at least sing in tune?" I implored, wishing I had a pair of headphones to block out the cacophony.
"We are in tune," said my son.
"Okay. Maybe it's the music selection. How about you sing something like Beethoven's ninth symphony?"
I saw my daughter grimace in the rear view mirror. "No, Mom. That music makes my ears bleed!"
"Your ears?" I said. "What about mine?"
"Yeah. I think Beethoven's ninth would make your ears bleed, too!"
Oy gewalt!

They'll learn . . .
ReplyDeleteMaybe. ;0)
DeleteI have the opposite in my car. I sing and my kids tell me to stop!
ReplyDeleteHa! Do you think if I start singing, they'll stop?
DeleteIf you played country music, my ears would bleed...
ReplyDeleteMilo's Tis More Blessed giveaway is huge now!
I'm not a huge country fan, either. I'm so happy Milo's giveaway has a lot of signups, now. It'll be fun!
Deleteand you say them two have a musician for their mother? :P
ReplyDeleteI don't know what happened there. It must be the dad's fault! ;0)
DeleteLast week, my four-year-old wanted to know why I keep singing in the car. I don't think she thinks much of it. LOL
ReplyDeleteShe'll be the one singing pretty soon!
DeleteInvest in ear plugs
ReplyDeleteMaybe they didn't inherit Mama's musical talent.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Unfortunately, I think you're right.
DeleteHa! Music, like beauty is in the eye and ear of the beholder.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Something like that!
DeleteI love the when kids sing in the car, but only for a little while.
ReplyDeleteLike for about three minutes. ;0)
DeleteDoh! When my oldest was younger we'd tune into the classical station while in the car. Unfortunately they don't have one here in the Orlando area. (WHAT?!? That's right.) My oldest loves classical music to this day. I think it's something you have to raise them on.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm having trouble finding a classical station in Atlanta. There has to be one around here!
DeleteI don't know what happened with my kids. They've heard classical music all their life because of my profession. They still prefer that ridiculous pop/rap stuff on the radio.
LOL. I like to sing in the car.
