The other day, my daughter had a sleepover with one of her friends. And as is usually the case, the girls got a little crazy. When my daughter came out of her room to ask me something, I hardly recognized her. Bright red lipstick, sloppily applied, covered her lips, making her look like a clown. She also wore heavy glitter eye shadow along with some odd, black markings scribbled on her face.
"What the heck did you do to your face?" I asked, hardly able to believe that the creature standing in front of me was my offspring.
"I made it look like a combination of Kei$ha and Taylor Swift. Don't I look like them?" (For those of you who are unfamiliar with these characters, they are pop music stars. Taylor likes to wear bright red lipstick, and Kei$ha - well, she's just about as odd as her name.)
"You bear a striking resemblance," I said. "But what's with the black mustache? Did you use a Sharpie marker on your face?"
She looked at me like I was crazy. "Mom, why would I use a Sharpie marker on my face? Everybody knows you use mascara to draw on your face!"
Right. Silly me. A mascara mustache!
How silly of me not to know that everybody uses mascara to draw on their face. With me it and my friends it was always eye liner - blue eye liner at that.
ReplyDeleteUsing eyeliner makes sense. Mascara seems a little tough for making clear, straight lines.
DeleteMost amusing Sherry, I remember my daughter up to things like that.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
They know how to have a good time, don't they?
DeleteWell at least you can see her easy in the dark
ReplyDeleteHa! Definitely lots of sparkle there!
DeleteBet she had fun washing it off...
ReplyDeleteI think she went through a half a container of makeup remover wipes!
DeleteSo cute. I've actually managed to give myself a mascara mustache, or close enough, by dropping the applicator when trying to use it on my eyelashes.
ReplyDeleteOops!
DeleteMy ex-husband's teenage daughter is very big into eye make-up now. And she isn't playing around with her friends. I remember the first time I saw her I was shocked. Her dad allows her to leave the house with thick black eyeliner and heavy mascara and eye shadow. It is just... woah. Anyway, as the night wore on, it got smudgy. I was taking pictures and looking at the group the phone. I told her to "Take off your sunglasses." She got MAD. She wasn't wearing sunglasses and she thought I was just busting on her. I wasn't. She really looked like she had sunglasses on from the viewpoint of my lens. She looked pouting and raccoon-eyed in the rest of the pictures. ::sigh::
ReplyDeleteTeenagers sure know how to pile on the makeup! Hopefully seeing the pictures will wake her up and encourage her to tone it down a little bit.
DeleteLOL, duh, right?? I love it :)
ReplyDeleteRight. Everybody should know that!
DeleteThe many uses of mascara..lol.
ReplyDeleteHow come I didn't know about this when I was a teenager? ;0)
DeleteLOL! Well, my kids did that the other day, except the youngest drew in his ear. *facepalm* Kids.
ReplyDeleteTrue Heroes from A to Z
I bet that was fun to clean out. Not!
DeleteAnother funny story. Just imagine how boring your life would be if you had kids with no imagination!
ReplyDeleteHa! Well, I have plenty of my own imagination, so I don't think I'd ever be bored!
DeleteMascara to draw on your face! Your daughter sure has loads of imagination to back her experiments with makeup.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would've ever left my room if my face had been painted up the way hers was! ;0)
DeleteWhen my daughters were very small, I put some of my make-up on them and they loved it. Unfortunately, my youngest came across a glue stick a few days later and thinking it was lipstick . . . My husband swears it wasn't that bad to clean up. I'm so glad I was out at the time.
ReplyDeleteOh boy. Hope it didn't get in her eyes!
Deleteglitter makes life so much perdier!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. A girl has to have glitter!
DeleteThat's classic, and such a great story. btw, apparently you use mascara to draw bigger eyebrows on the dog too. Don't ask me how I know this, other than the fact that I have 2 daughters of my own.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
Haha! Don't give my daughter any ideas. Next she'll be mascaraing Schultz!
DeleteMascara does come in handy!
ReplyDeleteYou never know when you're going to need a mustache! ;0)
DeleteI've never drawn on my face with mascara. I guess I'm really missing out.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Maybe you should go get a tube of mascara and apply a mustache, so you don't have to miss out any more!
DeleteUsing mascara to draw on your face sounds like a much better idea than Sharpie. :) I haven't ever tried it! Sounds like your daughter was having a lot of fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it wasn't a Sharpie, or she would've had a mustache on for the next year!
DeleteSherry, sounds like your daughter has great style! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat she does!
DeleteSounds like she was having fun
ReplyDeleteShe and her friend were both having a blast.
DeleteI don't think that's a good combination, lol.
ReplyDeleteNot something I would've tried!
DeleteHahahahaha that's where I've been going wrong lol Thank you for the laugh...
