Zombie Repellant

We've arrived at letter "Z" for the A-Z challenge!  Congratulations to everyone who made it!

Before I begin my story, I want to once again invite you to check out my article on why children's books are important.  You can find it here.  If you like it, please share with your social networks.  I'm trying to win a contest to get a free animated version of my book, That Mama is a Grouch.  EPublishing Experts will do this for the author with the most shares.  This is the last day.  Thanks to all who have already visited, shared, and commented.  I really appreciate it!

Now for the story.

I live in zombie country.  I do.  Really.  I live in Georgia, where the television series, Walking Dead is filmed.  (In fact, my daughter was thinking about auditioning as an extra for the production.)  Because we live in zombie land, we have to be ever-vigilant about these creatures.

Last weekend, my family and I drove out to Vidalia, Georgia, for the onion festival (that's a story unto itself).  The land looked exactly like the terrain in Walking Dead.  And we saw a few suspects who looked an awful lot like zombies.

"Mama," my son said.  "I know what to do if we see a zombie."

I turned around and looked at the kid.  "Really, Bubba?  What do we do?  Throw onions at them?"

"No, Mama.  We eat pie!"

I raised my eyebrows.  "Eat pie?"

He nodded, then he started singing his pie song that he had composed a couple of years ago:

Eat pie, eat pie.
Everybody eat pie.
You will die,
unless you eat pie.

Eat pie when you're sitting on the bucket.
Or zombies will invade you!

Eat pie, eat pie.
Everybody eat pie.
You will die,
unless you eat pie.

All right then.  So we got ourselves a fine Georgia peach pie and kept it with us at all times.  I suggest you do the same!

  9. We've come a long way from Twinkle Twinkle - now it's pie and zombies. My new WIP is set in Atlanta. I'm having a real hard time catching the "feel" of the place. I think the Onion Festival in Vidalia does it perfectly. Who could imagine that? Thanks!

    1. Cool. Vidalia is about three hours south of Atlanta. The land looks a little different. Atlanta is a big, bustling city. Vidalia is flat with swamps and pine trees. Both places have red soil, though. And if you want that zombie land feel, I'm sure you can get it from watching some episodes of Walking Dead.

  11. I did not realize that was filmed near you! Crazy. I think I could handle some pie to keep the zombies away. Do you think cobbler works too?

  16. A pie a day keeps the zombies away. Who knew? I'm not going to argue with that one.

    1. Best not to argue. Just get yourself some pie!

Oh no. The lyric "High apple pie in the sky hopes" just jumped into my head. I will now be singing High Hopes all day....!!!!!

  20. Does it have to be George peach, or can it be Texas pecan? I do like the song it is catchy!

    1. I think Georgia peach works best on Georgia zombies. Texas pecan would work just fine on Texan zombies. As long as it's pie!

  21. Even if it doesn't work, at least there was pie!

(Also, I tried to comment on the YouTube post, but my phone wouldn't let me. The cinnamon challenge was just as dangerous as the chubby bunny challenge because getting cinnamon in your lungs can make you choke. It was on national news and my mom made sure that I wouldn't try it.)

But still, pie is pie! I assume ice cream is allowed to be added to it?

    1. Oh well. But there's pie in him!

The onion festival was kind of a joke. We saw a grand total of two bags of onions in the whole place. And no blooming onions or onion rings. What kind of onion festival was that?

  23. Onion festivals and peach pie - things we don't have here in England. I feel I'm missing out.

  27. This made me smile so much. What a brilliant idea. I'll keep that in mind whenever I visit Georgia :) So far I only had apple pie, I need to try all the other delicious pies you have in the States (they are not that common in Germany).
