Wasn't my son just mentioning that one of the reasons he loves me is because I make embarrassing mistakes?
Well, here's another one:
Yesterday, I was making chicken pot pie for dinner. I put the filling in the pie crust and popped it into the oven. I set the timer for 45 minutes.
Forty minutes later, my kids sat down at the kitchen table. "When is dinner going to be ready?" they asked.
I looked at the timer. "Five minutes."
Oddly enough, I didn't smell the great smell of chicken pot pie. So I took a closer look. That's when I realized my embarrassing mistake number 253: I had forgotten to turn on the oven!
lol I guess chicken pot pie will be today's meal instead
ReplyDeleteNah. They just had to wait an hour. :)
DeleteHAHA I did that once with pizza. And I noticed it the same way - wondering why I didn't smell the aroma of the Italian spices throughout the kitchen and adjacent living room. Luckily though nobody was around to notice :) well except my cat.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sure your cat didn't make a big deal about it!
DeleteThat's funny! I've done that with the stove burner when I've forgotten we turned off the breaker during a vacation. Water doesn't boil well without heat...
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes. That would be a good trick!
Deleteit happened to me as well a couple of times... but never by my own mistake :) but when someone would switch of the stove from the electricity without me noticing it
ReplyDeleteTricky people! Of course you're perfect, Dezzy. You'd never make the ridiculous mistakes I do! ;0)
DeleteI think we're the opposite! I've forgotten to turn the oven or stove off before. I always realize it when I bring the dirty plates back to the kitchen and smell the heat from the burners. (That sounds weird but I swear, I smell the heat, and it's not dirty!)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is good at leaving the stove on. I always have to check on it after he's been in the kitchen.
DeleteBeen there, done that, lol.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us have!
DeleteOops. Well, that's a good excuse as any to go out for dinner! lol!
ReplyDeleteThat would've been what sane people would've done. But I'm not sane. I made them wait another hour for dinner. ;0)
DeleteIt happens to us all. I am sorry but this post made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm glad you got a chuckle out of it.
DeleteI've done that. No reason to feel embarrassed. You have lots of company.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Good to know. I feel so much better now!
DeleteOh NO!!! But isn't it ridiculous how long chicken pot pie has to bake? Seems wrong somehow.
ReplyDeleteIt is ridiculous. First you have to cook the filling. Then you have to cook it with the pie crust. Way too much time. But it sure is good!
DeleteWon't do that again
ReplyDeleteKnowing me, I probably will! ;0)
DeleteThis has happened to me. My mouth is watering thinking I'll be eating soon, and I haven't turned on the stove or oven.
ReplyDeleteI think it's happened to a lot of us.
DeleteLOL! I think everyone has made an embarrassing mistake like this at one point or another...
ReplyDeleteOnly Embarrassing Mistake 253? I think its our duty as mams, nanas and especially aunties to embarrass the little ones in our lives.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's 1,253. That would probably be more like it!
DeleteWell, hate to admit it, but that very thing has happened to me, too!
ReplyDeleteFrom the comments, I'd say there are a lot of folks in that boat!
ReplyDeleteDoh! We all have our moments, right?
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one who's done that, Sherry! Besides, if I tracked my mistakes, I'd have more than you.
ReplyDeleteThat is actually an easy one to make. Painful, but easy. Did they appreciate dinner more with the extra wait?
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious!.
ReplyDeleteCan never underestimate how important our sense of smell is:)
Oh no! That happened to me, too, and it's so frustrating, right? To be hungry and then I have to wait again, wondering why I didn't realize earlier the smell or the heat were missing... ;)
