Embarrassing Mama Mistake Number 253

Wasn't my son just mentioning that one of the reasons he loves me is because I make embarrassing mistakes?

Well, here's another one:

Yesterday, I was making chicken pot pie for dinner.  I put the filling in the pie crust and popped it into the oven.  I set the timer for 45 minutes.

Forty minutes later, my kids sat down at the kitchen table.  "When is dinner going to be ready?" they asked.

I looked at the timer. "Five minutes."

Oddly enough, I didn't smell the great smell of chicken pot pie. So I took a closer look. That's when I realized my embarrassing mistake number 253:  I had forgotten to turn on the oven!

  2. HAHA I did that once with pizza. And I noticed it the same way - wondering why I didn't smell the aroma of the Italian spices throughout the kitchen and adjacent living room. Luckily though nobody was around to notice :) well except my cat.

    1. And I'm sure your cat didn't make a big deal about it!

  3. That's funny! I've done that with the stove burner when I've forgotten we turned off the breaker during a vacation. Water doesn't boil well without heat...

  4. it happened to me as well a couple of times... but never by my own mistake :) but when someone would switch of the stove from the electricity without me noticing it

  5. I think we're the opposite! I've forgotten to turn the oven or stove off before. I always realize it when I bring the dirty plates back to the kitchen and smell the heat from the burners. (That sounds weird but I swear, I smell the heat, and it's not dirty!)

    1. My husband is good at leaving the stove on. I always have to check on it after he's been in the kitchen.

    1. That would've been what sane people would've done. But I'm not sane. I made them wait another hour for dinner. ;0)

  10. Oh NO!!! But isn't it ridiculous how long chicken pot pie has to bake? Seems wrong somehow.

    1. It is ridiculous. First you have to cook the filling. Then you have to cook it with the pie crust. Way too much time. But it sure is good!

  17. You're not the only one who's done that, Sherry! Besides, if I tracked my mistakes, I'd have more than you.

  18. That is actually an easy one to make. Painful, but easy. Did they appreciate dinner more with the extra wait?

  19. That's hilarious!.
Can never underestimate how important our sense of smell is:)

  20. Oh no! That happened to me, too, and it's so frustrating, right? To be hungry and then I have to wait again, wondering why I didn't realize earlier the smell or the heat were missing... ;)
