A Chip Off the Old Block

My teenage daughter was in the kitchen making breakfast this afternoon.  (Yes, this afternoon. She's a bit of a night owl.)  I heard the blender going and wondered what in the world she was making.  About ten minutes after that, I noticed a putrid odor.Something was burning. I knew it was time to investigate.

What I found was a huge mess, and something that vaguely resembled a pancake sitting in the skillet on the stove.  My daughter was standing there, with a wooden spatula in her hand.

"Girlfriend," I said.  "What exactly are you doing?"

"I'm making banana pancakes, Mom."

I nodded, trying not to say anything sarcastic.  "Do you need any help?"

"No, Mom.  It's under control.  I'm making them just like you do - burnt!"

I want to let you know, I'll be out of the office for a little while, so I won't be posting.  But don't worry,   I'm sure I'll have a ton of stories when I return!  See you when I get back!

  2. Hahahaha. My mom was terribly distracted while trying to cook when I was growing up. Seems like she always thought of something to do while the veggies were cooking. Eventually I got used to them tasting burnt. It was a surprise to go away to college and find out that they don't USUALLY taste that way:D

Just wanted to let you know I dedicated something to you on the Thursday post.

  4. I refuse to believe that you burn pancakes. A Mama doesn't do such a thing, unless it's an accident that happens once.

    Love,

I've had banana pancakes. Slap some peanut butter on them and they are awesome.

  12. My mom can't make pancakes but I can. My boyfriend tried to micromanage even though he had never made them before so I told him to do it. It took ten minutes before he came to me, said how sorry he was, and promised not to question me again because it was harder than he thought. hahahaha

  13. Hi, Sherry. I was afraid you were going to say that she burnt up the motor on the blender. It's been a little while since I made banana pancakes. Think I'll have to make them sometime soon for a Meatless Monday meal.

Enjoy your time away from blogging. I look forward to all the stories you'll have to share. : )
