The Great Cookie Hunt

It's that time of year.  Time to bake Christmas cookies.  The problem at my pad, is that the cookies seem to disappear not long after they're baked.  One year, I went into the freezer, where supposedly 120 chocolate chip cookies were waiting to be put on trays.  But when I opened the containers, the only thing I found was a note that said, "Num Num Num."  My husband had eaten all of them!

After that experience, I felt the best thing to do was hide the cookies.  I came up with all kinds of great places to hide them, and they were never found.  My family was not pleased about this arrangement.  Especially my husband.  So this year he thinks he's going to outsmart me.

I overheard a conversation between him and my kids.  It went like this:

"Where do you think Mama hides the cookies, Daddy?"

"I don't know, Bubba.  But I'm going to find them this year!"

"I know where she hides them," my daughter said.

"Where?" asked my husband.

"I'm not telling!" she replied.

I chuckled to myself.  She gets brownie points from the Mama for that one!

Bubba got up.  "I have an idea," he said.  "Hold on a minute."

I heard him go down to the basement.  A few minutes later he came back up.

"A metal detector?" asked my husband.

"Yeah, Daddy.  She hides them in tins.  The metal detector will help us find them!"

Okay.  New plan.  All cookies will be stored in plastic Tupperware containers!

  1. Funny funny. But hey, if you want, I'll send you some chicken men that I made for the pups. But I'll shape them like candy canes and Santa heads. They can find those. Ewwww.

    1. It was over the course of about two weeks. I'm sure he would've died if he had eaten them in one sitting!

  4. How long did it take him to eat one hundred twenty cookies? I'm quite impressed that he's still alive.

    Love,

  7. Everyone in your house is creative, Sherry. I hope it took your husband a long time to eat all of them! They must have been irresistible! Hope you have better luck hiding them this year.

  9. I've never been able to hide cookies for any appreciable length of time. When the Girl Scouts are selling thin mints, I plant some in the freezer - I might as well just put some directly in our collective mouths.

  10. Bubba is one smart kid!

My mom used to bake all the time and put cookies in the garage freezer (our extra full freezer). The problem- when she would go to get the cookies- the containers would be empty thanks to my brothers and their friends. They would go and grab cookies while they were playing basketball and didn't even care that they were in the freezer. :)

  11. Points to Bubba for being creative and outsmarting Daddy, points to daughter for sticking up for Mama, and points do Mama for making cookies. Negitive points to the Daddy though for eating so many cookies!

  13. You would have to hide your cookies from me, too. I chomp them down whenever I find them.

  21. Hahaha, I can't help laughing (sorry) seeing the empty cookie tin. Well on one hand, it's a really great compliment. Your cookies must be so damned good that they'd get metal detectors to find them.

    1. I was so mad at him! Yes. Those cookies are awesome. The ones he ate are the famous chocolate chip recipe. I only make them for Christmas because they're so decadent!

  22. Smart kid! Great story. I've sworn off cookies (and ice cream) this year and only strayed from the path of righteousness a couple times so far. Lost 20 pounds in the process.

  24. No such thing as a bad cookie. With the possible exception of the disastrous "Grandpa's Toe" promotion by Famous Amos.
