The Smoothy Challenge

My teenage daughter had one of her friends over, and for their entertainment, they participated in the Smoothy Challenge.  I found the two in the kitchen with the blender and an assortment of items:  Tomatoes, peanut butter, pepperoni, lime juice, Parmesan cheese, and yogurt.

"You're not seriously thinking about mixing all of that together, are you?" I asked.

My daughter grinned.  "Yeah, we are.  We're doing the Smoothy Challenge.  We're going to mix it together, and then drink it."

"Are you crazy?  You're going to make yourselves sick!"

They shrugged and proceeded to dump it all in the blender.  When they were done mixing it, they had a thoroughly disgusting brownish concoction.  They poured it in glasses and took a sip. (All while filming it.)

Apparently it wasn't good, because they both contorted their faces and promptly spit it out.

"That tasted like vomit!" the friend said.  "I think I'm going to die!"

"Mmm," I said.  "Should I call an ambulance?"

They laughed.

I walked over to where the bottle of lime juice was sitting and picked it up.  "Interesting.  This stuff expired last May."

They turned a sickly shade of green.

(Maybe I should've called the ambulance!)

    1. I hate seeing peanut butter go to waste, but it was an entertaining learning experience.

  2. *LOL* And I bet this won't deter them from doing it again some other time. :)

    1. No. I think even Schultz would've taken one sniff of that thing and run the other way!

  4. I didn't even know lime juice could expire. Well, everything has an expiration date. lol

    1. I noticed our lemon juice expired, too. The problem is that the expiration dates are so tiny, you can barely read them.

  5. I'll stick with my triple chocolate smoothies. ; )

  6. Well, it's only the first step on their quest for smoothie perfection. Maybe there'll be more to come!

    1. I'm kind of wondering how a well-done pizza smoothy would taste. ;0)

  7. Isn't that what juicing is all about...throwing things together? lol. I'd better check the expiration date on my lime juice, it's been around a while (-:

  10. I knew the end before I read it. Kids will be kids.

  11. I always wonder about this when they do it on Big Brother. They blend weird ingredients--but the game is that you have to guess what's in the drink by taste alone. They should try it that way next time!

    1. Now that would be interesting. The taster though, would probably get really sick if he had to drink my daughter's concoctions!

  12. I haven't heard of this game, but I can see it being popular. I was imagining the concoction you described to be horrible and I guess it was! At least you didn't have to drink it!

    1. Yes! I would've definitely needed an ambulance if I had tried to drink it!

  13. Mam children are usually excited to discover many things in their life. Make them to explore more. Mam deeply regretted for being not able to keep in touch with you all for few weeks. I have been bit busy mam.

    1. Kids do like to explore. No worries about not being around. You have your hands full with the new little one!

  15. This is not a good plan. Kids do some pretty crazy things for the sake of on line kicks. Now I'm remembering that old fad of college kids swallowing live goldfish.

    I'm losing my appetite now.

  16. Hahahahaha! Always check the label. Silly kids. I'm surprised though. That's the kind of behavior I'd expect out of a bunch of teenage football players, not a couple girls.
