Today, my family and I went bowling. We got to our lane, and set up the computer keep score. Everyone was on normal bowl mode, meaning no bumpers were being used.
We started bowling. Everyone did well, except Bubba, my ten-year-old son. His balls went into the gutter eighty percent of the time. At the end of the game, he was dead last, and quite upset about it.
"Redo," he said. "Because something is wrong with the ball."
I laughed. "Okay, Bubba. Get another ball. We'll do another game." While he got the other ball, I changed the computer to bring up bumper guards when it was Bubba's turn.
That made all of the difference in the world. Every time the ball was about to go to the gutter, the guard prevented it. Bubba even managed to get a few strikes. At the end of the game, Bubba was in second place.
"See, I told you it was a bad ball!"
Right. Next time, we're all using gutter guards!
Sounds like a good day. What did ya'all have for supper? Do you ever go out for ice cream after bowling?
ReplyDeleteThat was two days ago. I can't remember what I ate two days ago! ;0) I think we had catfish. Nope. We have never gone out for ice cream after bowling. That would be fun, though. We'll have to do that next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteI have a hard time remembering what I ate as well. Thanks for taking the time to answer back.
Deletehaha those guards can make all the difference
ReplyDeleteThey sure can!
DeleteIt's been so long since I bowled, I'd probably need gutter guards as well.
ReplyDeleteThey're really helpful!
DeleteLOL Pete took our 15 year old Hannah Bug and our granddaughter Hazil Ruth to his bowling league Friday. Baby Ruth will be three in April. She used the ramp to roll the ball down. She beat Aunt Bug every game!
ReplyDeleteI saw another little kid using a ramp. Cute!
DeleteMy mom is the Gutterball Queen and I am the Gutterball Princess. We've seen children and super frail old people in lanes next to us, doing a million times better. I think the highest I've ever scored was 130. Usually I'm around 50-70.
ReplyDeleteI did good on the first game. By the second, my arm was tired. I got in the 90s which was pathetic.
DeleteGutter guards. Right. Good advice from Bubba.
ReplyDeleteHe knows how to win a game!
DeleteBowling is a fun family activity. When The Hurricane was in college she and her boyfriend started a bowling club.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Bowling is a lot of fun. That's cool that Hurricane and her boyfriend started a club.
DeleteSeems mam is having great time with your kids.
ReplyDeleteYes, we know how to have fun.
DeleteGood thinking! I didn't even know the gutter guards could be raised!
ReplyDeleteGetting a few strikes is a real confidence boost :)
It sure is! I still get excited when I get strikes.
DeleteSeems a good day was had by all..
ReplyDeleteYes, we had a great time!
DeleteNot a bad redo
ReplyDeleteHe felt pretty good about his second score.
DeleteSounds like you were having a great fun time. Lovely blog here btw! Would you like to follow each other on GFC? Please let me know on my blog so I can follow back. Thank you.

Deletegutter guards are cool :)
ReplyDeletehave fun again....bowling is cool...
Bowling is a lot of fun!
DeleteYou're a super mom, Sherry! Nothing like making a boy happy. :-)
ReplyDeleteGutter guards were a simple solution!
DeleteA bad ball; I agree...ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI missed the bumper guards arriving on the scene for many years - my boys finally told me about them when they went to a birthday party at a bowling alley.
I'm slow.
Gutter guards are a good invention!
DeleteWell there you go, I've learnt something new. I had no idea there was such a thing.
ReplyDeleteI learned about them when one of my kids went to a bowling birthday party.
DeleteI'm with Tracy. And here I could have been a champion bowler if I had known there was such a thing.
ReplyDeleteHaha! We all could be champions with bumper guards!
DeleteI need gutter guards for everything I do in life...
ReplyDeleteHaha! Me too!
DeleteYeah! We need gutter guards!
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny. I'm still cracking up over the comment above yours.
DeleteI've never bowled, let alone used gutter guards. Me... bowling... could be interesting, hehe.
ReplyDeleteYou should try it. I bet you'd have fun.
DeleteI'm horrible at bowling. I need gutter guards.
ReplyDeleteI'm good for one game. After that, I need gutter guards. ;0)
DeleteI always think that when I see kids with gutter guards while I'm bowling. I want those, too!
ReplyDeleteYou can program the computer to put them up for you. ;0)
DeleteWhen I was younger I used to blame losing video games on a malfunction of some kind :P
ReplyDeleteOf course. It's never user error!
DeleteLOL, I never even knew gutter guards existed until this post. Can you tell I haven't bowled in ages? XD
ReplyDeleteA lot of people don't know about gutter guards.
DeleteI didn't know about them until I had kids! Pretty useful things.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are!
DeleteSounds like a fun time but just an FYI, most bowling lanes restrict the use of bumper guards to kids under a certain age, usually 7 or 8. The reason is older bowlers throw harder and can damage the guards. Not to worry...just go bowling more often and he'll get so good he won't need them anymore.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I didn't see any bumper guard police roaming around regulating that.
DeleteBowling is hard. Whenever I tried, it was as if the ball had a magnet on it. It zoomed right into the gutter. I think people gave me credit just so I'd get some sort of score! :)
