"Mama?" my ten-year-old son asked, holding a brown paper lunch bag in his hand. "How long do I have to put this in the microwave?"
I walked over to the kid and took the bag out of his hand. I looked inside. Popcorn kernels. "Dude, you can't microwave these!"
"Why not?" he asked. "It's a microwave popcorn bag. Just like the ones from the store."
"Not quite," I said. "This brown bag is definitely not microwave-safe. You'll start a fire. The ones from the store are made specifically for microwave use."
He looked sad. "Oh."
"Don't worry, Bubba," I said. "I'll get you a bag of popcorn."
I pulled out the big pot and some oil, and made popcorn the old fashioned way. When I was done, I put it in his brown paper bag and handed it to him. "There you go."
Bubba grinned. "Thanks, Mama. This is the best bag of popcorn ever!"
Got his popcorn the best way
ReplyDeleteHe sure did!
DeleteHe just wanted it in a bag, that's all!
ReplyDeleteBags are better than bowls. :)
DeletePopcorn the old fashion way with a new fashion bag, win win
ReplyDeleteHe wins every time!
DeleteFour cheers for the traditional method. Though I did read in a health magazine that popping corn can be made in a homemade bag, with a little canola oil. Don't know if it really works or not but the lady that wrote the article loved it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'll have to research that and see if it can be done.
DeleteThe way he wanna enjoy it. Popcorn taste better that way like life:)
ReplyDeleteI buy the corns, and then I use one of those popcorn popping devices. That way I know my popcorn has no chemicals in it. It's just the corn.
ReplyDeletePrecious Monsters
I used to have one of those poppers. They were a pain to clean, so I just go with the pot now.
DeleteYou saved the day! :D
ReplyDeleteI've never made popcorn the old-fashioned way. I should try it.
I think it tastes better than the microwave stuff.
DeleteNot a fan of prepackage microwave popcorn, but have used it. I prefer to use regular popcorn kernels in a microwave popcorn dish specifically made for that. It probably is the fun of eating out of a bag like in the movies. . .that your son desires. I have made popcorn the old fashioned way.
ReplyDeleteI think prepackaged popcorn is too buttery and salty. I like making it the old fashioned way.
Deletehe is easy to satisfy :)
ReplyDeleteMost of the time. ;0)
DeleteIsn't mom's popcorn the best? Haha. Bubba's a sweet kid.
ReplyDeleteBubba is a good kid!
DeleteNothing like old school ways of doing things!
ReplyDeleteSometimes that's best.
DeleteAww! That's so cute! And now I want popcorn. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing like the smell of fresh-popped popcorn!
DeleteI love popcorn made that way-I bought a pop or pan that uses the oil but it isn't as good!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the pot over the popper, too. Easier to clean.
DeleteMy roommate makes popcorn the old fashioned way but I'm positive yours turned out better. For one, he doesn't over it so I've found popcorn that popped itself all the way into the living room. For two, it always smells like sweaty feet. My boyfriend and I have heard him making it, looked at each other, and said: "He's making feetcorn again."
ReplyDeleteThat sounds disgusting! Why in the world wouldn't he cover the pot? That's just crazy!
DeleteI love popcorn, What a lovely guesture to make Buba his popcorn and the lovely remark he made to you.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I couldn't have him burn down the house, could I? ;0)
DeleteI have an air popper, but sometimes make it on the stove for a different taste. You are a good mom.
ReplyDeleteI like making it on the stove. My family likes it that way, too.
DeleteThat's sweet. He's grateful for what you did.
ReplyDeleteYes. It's nice to be appreciated!
DeleteI prefer it made in the old fashioned way too. far more satisfying,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit.
Best wishes,
Nilanjana.
Madly-in-Verse
Ahh, sweet!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he checked with me before he put the bag in the microwave!
DeleteI have a popcorn maker. I haven't used it in about two or maybe three years. I put on too much butter and overdo the eating, so I haven't purchased popcorn. I'm not that fond of microwave popcorn.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I'm not a huge fan of microwave popcorn, either.
DeleteNow that is one big Momma win!
ReplyDeleteIt sure was!
DeleteThat's totally a mistake I would have made when I was his age.*
ReplyDelete*or yesterday.
Haha! Now you know not to put a brown paper bag full of popcorn kernels in the microwave!
DeleteHe's so happy with it. :) I've never made popcorn the old-fashioned way. I'm so dependent on the microwave.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope your microwave doesn't ever break!
DeleteAw, that was very sweet, and I bet the popcorn was too!
ReplyDeleteBubba liked it!
DeleteI wish to test your popcorn.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Sure. I'll send over a bag (although it might be a little stale by the time it gets to you!)
DeleteAw, so sweet. My family's microwave broke when I was very young, so the old-fashioned way of making popcorn is the one I'm most familiar with, LOL.
ReplyDeleteWe never had a microwave when I was a kid. Popping popcorn on the stove was the only way I did it, too.
DeleteSo cute he was trying to microwave it. Is popcorn better made the old-fashioned way? I'm not sure I've ever had it that way (except at the theater!)
ReplyDeleteYou should try it. It's good.
DeleteHow sweet that he wanted to make his own popcorn ;)
ReplyDeleteI used to only make microwaved popcorn... now I pop it in a pot and I love it so much better ♡
I think popcorn popped in a pot is much better than microwaved popcorn.
DeleteBubba's teaching you Problem Solving Skills. I like it.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't made popcorn on the stove in a long time (and I mean long time). Lately we've been popping it in a microwave popping bowl. But the we just eat it out of the bowl. The bag is probably more fun...:)
We have movie nights, so we always stock our cupboards with popcorn kernels.
DeleteCool! I like buying corn kernels too & make my own popcorns too adding coffee etc. It's fun playing with food! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCoffee in popcorn? I would have never thought such a thing was possible. You are very imaginative!
Deleteso much nicer to do it the old fashioned way than in a microwave in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteLove the traditional popcorn. It reminds me of childhood, since we never had microwave. :)
