Welcome to the A-Z Challenge! Every day, except Sundays, I will do a post featuring each letter of the alphabet. Most of these posts will be stories of things that have happened in the past. But once in a while, if it works out, I'll do a current story.
Today letter, A, is about Ants. Three years ago, my son, who was six, decided it would be great fun to dig up a red ant nest. The ants did not think that was a good idea, so they crawled in his pants and caused a whole lot of trouble!
I was in the kitchen when I heard the screaming.
"Mama, help!!!!!"
I ran into the garage and found my boy frantically trying to get ants off of his legs.
"Get out of your clothes!" I ordered. The ants were all over his shorts, shirt, shoes, and socks.
He quickly obliged and ran into the house. Meanwhile, this Mama waged war against the little red varmints. I got out a can of Raid and put an end to their lives.
Now we have a little understanding with the ants. My boy won't mess with them and they won't mess with us. Otherwise they'll face the wrath of the Queen Mama!
He learned that was not a good idea! Bet when he starts mowing the lawn, he'll avoid them then as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! One encounter with ants was quite enough!
DeleteI guess this is what is called learning by doing :)
ReplyDeleteI'd call it learning the hard way!
DeleteOuch! My son is allergic to ant bites. we found out at a young age when his legs swelled from the nasty buggers!
ReplyDeleteAww. Poor kid! I hope he doesn't have any more run-ins with the ants.
DeleteQueen Mama beats Queen Ant any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteMama 1 point, Ants, half a point:-)
ReplyDeleteYay, Mama! :)
DeleteOh wow. Our kids turn us into warriors ready at a moments notice. lol. Glad he was okay in the end.

Yes. The Mama doesn't like when things are trying to hurt her offspring!
Deletehaha whole new meaning, or maybe actual meaning, to ants in your pants
ReplyDeleteThe actual meaning, indeed!
DeleteHopefully the ants weren't biters! Those things can leave some nasty red welts on the skin!

They were biters! The poor kid was covered in bites! Red ants are the nastiest little buggers!
DeleteQueen Mama, is a baddie with the Raid in her hand. Got to be to save the little ones. Bugs Beware! Red ants are nothing to ignore, I've been bitten by one of the little insects in Florida before.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Florida, and I remember being bitten by them when I was a kid. Nasty things!
DeleteIsn't it terrible that the lessons we remember best are learned the Hard Way??? I have tangled with red ants a few times, though never by choice. I bet your boy steers clear from this point forward. They are nasty and painful....
ReplyDeleteYes. He hasn't gone near an ant hill since!
DeletePoor Bubba! What a horrible experience for him. I'm glad he's not allergic like my sister is. I'm sure it was a lesson that will be long remembered.
ReplyDeleteTangling with ants is most definitely not a good thing!
DeleteOh yes. I think we all have an ants in the pants story. They're funny afterward. Not so funny during.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely not fun during!
DeleteoMG it was an anticide!
ReplyDeleteI know. I'm so horrid, killing off so many ants!
DeleteUgh. I've had several run-ins with fire ants. Not fun. Not fun at all. I'm very thankful they did not get higher than my ankles.
ReplyDeleteThose things have quite a bite!
DeleteGo Queen Mama, go!! Great story!
ReplyDeleteQueen Ant had better never mess with Queen Mama!
DeleteGreat story, and lesson learnt by him hopefully!
ReplyDeleteYes. He stays away from ant hills now!
DeleteYikes! Never mess with this Mama's young 'uns!
ReplyDeleteThat's right. Because there will be big trouble if you do!
DeleteSherry, I'm looking forward to your A to Z posts. Those red ants bite. Yikes! I hope Bubba wasn't bitten. :-)
ReplyDeleteHe was bitten. It was pretty nasty!
DeleteYeep! Your poor boy! Good thing he has a fierce Ant-Killing Mama to help him out!
ReplyDeleteNever mess with the Mama!
DeleteThis reminds me that I'm already seeing ants everywhere. I always have a can of Raid nearby.
ReplyDeleteRaid is a very good invention. I hate the smell, but it sure helps in times like this.
DeleteAnt attacks have nothing on you
ReplyDeleteNot as long as I'm armed with a can of Raid!
DeleteGlad you were able to save the day! I once had ant attack me and it still gives me shivers! I was moving bricks with my dad when I was growing up and I unearthed their home accidentally. I had ants in my pants, too! Great that you and the ants have an understanding now. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how nasty those little critters can be!
DeleteLovely posts. Nice to connect and follow one of the AtoZ team!

DeleteSounds like a good compromise. I hope this truce lasts a while :)
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteOh dear, that does not sound like a fun experience! Good job you had Raid on hand :)
ReplyDeleteOne must always know where the Raid is!
