"Mama," my nine-year-old son said. "What do I have behind my back?"
I scoured the table, trying to figure out what was on it that was no longer there. "A quarter," I said.
He looked surprised. "Yes. Now guess which hand it's in."
"Right."
He wrinkled his eyebrows, looking very puzzled. "That's pretty good, Mama!" Then he did a little shuffle. "Now guess which hand it's in."
"Right," I guessed.
"Yep!" He did it again. "Which one, now?"
"Left."
"Mama, you're good at this." He shuffled things around one more time and put his hands behind his back. "Guess again. You'll never get it!"
I looked at that kid and smiled. "Neither."
Of course I was right. I figured he had put it in his back pocket.
He stared at me with his mouth open. "How did you know?"
"Bubba, Mamas have x-ray vision. You can't hide anything from the Mama!"
Smart! Get him to believe that now. He'll think twice about trying to fool you.
ReplyDeleteThat's my plan!
DeleteLove this! What a sweet post :)

Ah yes the all seeing Mom eyes. They always awe us as kids. Even now my Mom uses her Mom powers on me. =)

It's one of the privileges of being a mom!
DeleteThat was good, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteThanks. ;0)
DeleteGood job. I always pick the wrong hand when my kids try this with me. I guess it's time for a stronger prescription on my X-ray glasses.
ReplyDeleteHaha! See your optometrist!
Deletehaha have to get up really early to fool you
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to fool the Mama!
DeleteUh-oh. Now he won't get away with anything! My mom always said she had eyes in the back of her head. I remember puzzling about that one.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she did! ;0)
DeleteOnce upon a time my daughters believed that, too.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't fool them forever, could you?
DeleteI agree that mamas have x-ray vision, atleast mine does and she can even read minds.
ReplyDeleteYes. Reading minds is another special Mama skill! ;0)
DeleteIf I were him I would ask for a lead door to his room.
ReplyDeleteThat would be brilliant, but I don't think he's figured out that lead block x-rays! ;0)
DeleteWhen I was a kid my mother always caught me when I was up to no good, even if I was clear on the other side of the house. I was convinced that she had x-ray vision. 20-something years later, I'm still not totally convinced that she doesn't.
ReplyDeleteIt's that special mom thing!
DeleteLOL. Kids are so fun to toy with. *wicked grin*
ReplyDeleteTrue Heroes from A to Z
Hee hee hee! ;0)
DeleteAnd eyes behind our heads too - cute story!
ReplyDeleteWe moms are amazing!
DeleteMom knows best, always :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. And don't ever forget it!
DeleteGood answer, bet he won't fool you again.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I wish that would be true, but I'm sure he'll figure something out. He's pretty clever!
DeleteHehe! I think he has one smart mama.
ReplyDeleteI have to be at least one up on him!
DeleteReminds me of such incidents when I was a kid :)
ReplyDeleteTrue, you can't hide anything from mum; just a thorough scan with those laser sharp eyes all over you and that's it !

Thank you so much for all the follows, Rajiv! I appreciate it!
DeleteThat was great! You were on a roll that day.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my better days!
DeleteHahaha! You're so clever! He'll be more careful now that he thinks he has a Super Mama! :)
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to have to get even smarter! I'm sure he'll try to think of even more ways to outsmart me.
Deleteso that's how he inherited his mutant powers!
ReplyDeleteYes. From the Super Mama! ;0)
DeleteGood one. And funny.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, you're good at these. Though I do
Deletemiss seeing pictures from time to time.
You will always win
ReplyDeleteOf course. Because I'm the Mama!
DeleteCute!!! My kids aren't old enough to be deceptive yet, but when they are they might be able to fool me. Right now I'm thinking about when they play hide and seek and they always still hide in the exact same place. :)
ReplyDeleteThat makes it easy. My son perfected that game, and now I can barely ever find him. (He can't find me either!)
DeleteCool game and they do have x-ray vision.
ReplyDeleteI bet you have x-ray vision, too, because you're a teacher!
DeleteGood for you, but that would have made me think twice at that age ;)
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while I get lucky!
DeleteMoms always know, even without x-ray vision! They're special that way... ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, they are!
DeleteThe ways of a mom are ever mysterious!
ReplyDeleteI could never figure it out...until I became a mom!
DeleteSmart boy, figuring out Mama knows everything. :-)
ReplyDeleteHopefully that will keep him out of trouble.
