In case you haven't figured it out, our hundred pound German Shepherd, Schultz, is a little bit crazy. I think I mentioned a while ago, that he likes chasing the light from a flashlight around the yard in the dark. He begs to do it every night. So we let him go out, and run him until he can barely stand. I know it sounds like torture, but he loves it!
Last night, he had two runs. At dusk he started begging, so I took him out. We did it for ten minutes, and then I brought him in. Apparently, that wasn't enough. When it was completely dark, he begged again. We took him out and ran him at top speed for a full twenty five minutes! I was exhausted just watching him sprint that long!
He could barely walk into the house. He took two steps and plopped down. We filled his water bowl and put it down in its spot. He got up, walked another two steps and lay down. He looked up with his soulful brown eyes.
"What's the matter, Schultz? Are you finally worn out?" I asked.
He got up again and made it to his water bowl. He lay down, stuck his face in his bowl, and let his tongue hang in the water. He was too tired to drink! Poor Schultz.
That's what I call dog tired!
Just like a kid - he can go and go and go and then he just drops.
ReplyDeleteI think he'd go until he has a heart attack!
DeleteLOL that's hilarious. I wish you had taken a picture. That exercise is probably super healthy for him though. You're adding years to his life!
ReplyDeleteWe have him on video, lying in front of his bowl, trying to drink his water. It's hilarious!
DeleteHahaha! I wish I had a trick for my mom's dogs. She has two little shitzus that never run out of energy. The girl get so excited and gives so many kisses, that she just can't stop. The boy will growl if you stop petting him and will flop back in your arms like a baby for his belly rub. Luckily, her 130 pound dog does actually get tired...sometimes.
ReplyDeleteDogs are so funny!
DeleteI love it. Dogs are the best. Did he sleep sound the entire night?
ReplyDeleteYes, he did!
DeleteThat's wonderful. Our little one (half Schultz, half beagle, all cute), likes to wake during the wee hours of the morning. So much fun.
DeleteNow if you could tire out Bubba, you would have it made,
ReplyDeleteI should make Bubba chase the flashlight!
DeleteBeware of heat stroke. It can happen to dogs, too. It's warm and humid now at night where I am, and you aren't that far away.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I'll tell my husband. He's usually the one "flashlighting" the dog. That's a good thing to keep in mind!
DeleteSchultz is always filled with stories... when will the cat get more space in your anecdotes? :)
ReplyDeleteThe cat is boring. He just sleeps all day. He's probably more exciting at night, but I'm not up to see it.
DeletePoor Schultz- but what fun he had! And just wanted to let you know I will be closing my blog for a while, but will be checking in on my favorite blogs (like yours!) peiodically~
ReplyDeleteOkay. Thanks for still stopping by my pad. Let me know when yours reopens.
DeleteHahaha! Our little shih tzu used to do that, too. But it didn't take nearly as much effort to tire him out. A block or two would do it.
ReplyDeleteSchultz has a lot of energy he needs to burn off!
DeleteNow that is tired, poor fellow. :) But I bet he'll be ready to go again tonight.
ReplyDeleteHe was! We didn't run him quite as long, though.
Deletehaha keeps him on the go. Schultz has part cat in him indeed
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that our cat has no interest in the flash light!
DeleteLOL. That was one tired dog. : )
ReplyDeleteYes, he was!
Delete*LOL* Poor guy, but so silly. :) Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I did! Hope you had a good one.
DeleteBet he had a good night's sleep
ReplyDeleteHe sure did!
DeleteA well earned rest!.. seems he enjoyed every minute
ReplyDeleteHe was very happy when he was done.
DeleteSounds like Schultz is a great personal trainer.
ReplyDeleteHe's definitely in good shape!
DeleteOh, I really do love Schultz stories! The image of him running at full tilt (soooo happy) around the yard is great :)
ReplyDeleteYou should see the grass after he's done tearing it up!
DeleteHaha, it's so funny that they'll wear themselves out like that. I had a dog once that actually sat down in the middle of the walk and refused to budge. I had to pick him up and carry him home.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Schultz doesn't do that. He'd be a little heavy!
DeleteOh my, poor dog.. but that was a great workout for him though.
ReplyDeleteHe loved every minute of it!
DeleteHe's a good ol' hound. Sounds like he gets his second wind long after the sun goes down.
ReplyDeleteHe really does. He's pretty lazy all afternoon.
DeleteAww...poor dog! Hope he recovers well from the workout!
ReplyDeleteHe's just fine!
DeleteThat sounds like an adorable sight. Reminds me of my Italian greyhound. Little guy can just run and run for hours, and then when he konks out... he konks out HARD.
ReplyDeleteGreyhounds are cool dogs! They are made for running!
