First, I want to let you know that I'm a guest on Janie Junebug's blog. I'm talking about bullying - something that happened to me when I was a kid - and sharing some thoughts on it. Please stop by and visit!
Now for the story:
My nine-year-old son has a loose tooth. Which means the tooth fairy should be paying a visit to our house soon. I've told my son already that I'm the tooth fairy. And Santa Claus. And the Easter Bunny. But he doesn't believe me.
"I'm going to do a little experiment," he said. "I'm not going to tell anyone when my tooth comes out. I'm just going to stick it under my pillow and see if the tooth fairy comes."
"But dude," I said. "If you don't tell me you lost your tooth, how am I going to leave some cash under your pillow?"
He looked at me very seriously. "Mama, you're not the tooth fairy. And I'm going to prove it!"
Oy!
Glad he is going with the scientific approach.;-)
ReplyDeleteHe does have a rather scientific mind!
DeleteI believed in the tooth fairy big time. Even when I left money under my own children's pillow .. I was still almost as happy and as surprised as they were ! lol!
ReplyDeleteHaha! That's funny!
DeleteHe's in for a reality check, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteYes, he is!
Deletehaha when no money shows up, time to tell you
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there will be lots of complaints about the tooth fairy, soon!
DeleteThat's one determined little boy! I'll look forward to the rest of the story. I'll also head over to Janie Junebug and check out your guest post, Sherry. Maria @ Delight Directed Living
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know how it goes!
DeleteI love denial in the very young. He knows how to hold on to his youth.
ReplyDeleteYes, he does! He wants to stay forever young.
DeleteThat is really sweet. But then again, he's going to be very disappointed when there is no cash under his pillow. Who would dare bully you? You're so amazing. I'm heading over to your guest post now.
ReplyDeleteI hope he's not too disappointed!
DeleteThere were a lot of mean kids in my childhood. I hope they grew up and are a lot nicer as adults!
Oh, will he proof that you are not the tooth fairy? Hope not!
ReplyDeleteWe'll see!
Deletemore cash for you.....
ReplyDeleteNo complaints from me about that!
DeleteAnd won't you be surprised when he does end up with a coin! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd be shocked!
DeleteBut the gap in his mouth will be all too telling...
ReplyDeleteExcept it's a tooth that's further back and hard to see.
DeleteHow strange...
ReplyDeleteMy mom told me about Santa Clause when I was 8 because she heard students from my school being made fun of for still believing in it. I already had a suspicion that the Easter Bunny wasn't real because it only ever came when I was in the bath. I also wondered about the Tooth Fairy because I made $5 a tooth while other kids made 50¢. I asked my mom and she said that she was everyone but if I wanted to keep pretending, I could still get my chocolate eggs and money. That went on until I was like 12 haha.
The tooth fairy is so all over the map with what she leaves. I've heard stories about kids getting $20.00 and a bunch of presents for each tooth. Crazy! My kids get a dollar.
DeleteUh-oh. That puts you in a sticky position! As Medeia pointed out, though, you just have to watch for the gap...as long as the tooth doesn't come out after lights out.
ReplyDeleteThe gap would be in the back - not easy to see!
DeleteThank you so much for writing a guest post. It's excellent, and readers appreciate your excellent advice. My kids believed me when I told them I was the tooth fairy. Maybe it was because they figured out the whole Santa Claus thing for themselves when they were quite young, so they knew the other stories couldn't be true. I hope Bubba isn't too disappointed, but I admire his desire to experiment.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
We'll see what happens when the tooth fairy doesn't show up!
DeleteHe may be disappointed
ReplyDeleteThat's a definite possibility!
DeleteOh wow - you got a little genius on your hands there Sherry :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I do!
DeleteI love this. Bubba is so full of science and wonder and faith. Well done, Mama!!
ReplyDeleteHe's a great kid!
DeleteHa! A typical Bubba reaction!
ReplyDelete... and bullying is one of my pet peeves. Grrrrrrrrr...
I'm not a fan of bullies, either!
DeleteSo cute. If we all could only have that much faith in what we believe in.
ReplyDeleteThe faith of a kid is pretty amazing!
DeleteHahahaha goes to show you kids believe what they want to believe. :-D
ReplyDeleteSo true!
DeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth!
ReplyDeleteGreat story.
ReplyDeleteWhen our older son lost a tooth many years ago, my parents happened to be here for a visit. We spent our evenings playing cards, yakking, and having a good old time. Long story short, our son got quite distraught that the tooth fairy "forgot" to leave money under his pillow... two nights in a row! Horrors! So I told him to write a note and leave it on the fridge. He did... and it worked! HA (I still have the note, and it's hysterical.)
My friend had a similar situation when her 8 year old daughter told her that what she wanted for Christmas was between her and Father Christmas and nothing to do with her mother.
ReplyDeleteAway over to Janie Junebug's blog now, thanks for sharing the link.
How old was he when you told him? I love that he doesn't believe you. We're only kids for a little while.
ReplyDeleteLOL! That's awesome that he still believes. I'm looking forward to the follow up when he doesn't get his money. =)
