I went to the hair stylist today to get a little trim. The lady is so nice, and we always have the most interesting conversations. Today's conversation was particularly interesting. It started off with me saying I only wanted an inch or two cut off.
"You and me are a lot alike," she responded. "We need long hair, because we're really feminine, and it just wouldn't be right to have short hair."
I nodded in agreement.
She continued. "I remember when my mom chopped off all my hair. I was devastated. Permanently. I still haven't recovered."
"Wow. That must've been really traumatic," I said.
"It was."
I told her about when my mom chopped my hair off when I was six, because it had so many knots, and she couldn't get it all untangled when the school bus showed up in front of the house. She just chopped it all off, so I looked like a boy. That was a very bad day!
The hair stylist nodded in sympathy. She then explained how to get knots out without chopping off your hair. Then she added something else. "Do you know how to get gum out of hair?"
I shook my head. "How?"
"Peanut butter."
I figured this would be good. "How does peanut butter get gum out?"
"You put it in your hair, and you let your dog chew on it. The dog will work on it, and pretty soon the gum will come out."
I tried not to laugh. "Do you have personal experience with this method?"
She nodded. "I did it on my daughter, and worked perfectly."
So ladies and gentleman, this is expert advice from a hair stylist. To get gum out, all you need is peanut butter and a dog (probably a small one rather than a giant German Shepherd)!
You've given Schultz something new to try!
ReplyDeleteI prefer long hair on a woman. It is more feminine.
I've had short hair only a couple of times, and it just didn't quite seem like me. I like long hair on women, too.
DeleteI have a chiweenie he would love to chew on our heads!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Then he'd love the peanut butter idea!
DeleteI've heard the peanut butter advice before, but when I used it on Favorite Young Man (a girl put gum in his hair on the school bus) I didn't know the part about the dog. We didn't have a dog, but perhaps I could have borrowed one. It took forever to get the gum out of his hair. Our stylist from long ago always wanted to cut The Hurricane's 28-inch hair. She thought it looked messy, but it was beautiful. One day I gave her permission to trim a little bit to make it even and take off the split ends. She cut off eleven inches! Hell hath no fury like a mom whose daughter's hair has been cut without permission. My hair is a little longer than it has been in a while. Willy Dunne Wooters told me yesterday that with my hair longer I look more beautiful than a model.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Willy Dunne Wooters is a keeper for sure!
DeleteHow dare the stylist cut The Hurricane's hair like that! I would've been furious, too!
That stylist lost our business.
DeleteI'm sure her daughter's hairdo doesn't look its best right now :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Dog slobber probably isn't the best styling product!
DeleteLOL note to self. But in my case, my hair is so thin the dog would probably bite my scalp during the gum retrevial process!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Then you'd better not get gum in your hair! ;0)
DeleteYikes. I'm not sure I'll be trying that method any time soon!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, what did she say about getting knots out? My daughter's hair is a nest and terribly hard to comb.
She said work it out beginning at the inside bottom section, and work your way out and up. I'm not quite sure exactly how that works. I always used detangler and conditioner on my daughter's hair.
DeleteHaha, true! I think I've heard ice? You freeze the gum and it comes out easier?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather do ice than peanut butter and dog slobber!
DeleteChihuahua to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteIn my country older teachers used to stick the gum in your hair if they caught you chewing in the class :) And we also had teachers who would pound your head into the desk if you talk during the class.... And no... me wasn't taught by Catholic priests in Ireland LOL
You had some nasty teachers! I've heard stories about teachers like that, but fortunately, I've never experienced them.
DeleteI always heard that peanut butter worked but I never knew why. I guess it's a good thing I never tried it, since I wouldn't have know to use the dog!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you'd do if you didn't have a dog. Try a parakeet?
DeleteI've heard the peanut butter part before, but not the dog. Oh I can just imagine what someone would look like after Schultz chomping on their hair! *LOL*
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't have any gum - or hair! Problem solved. ;0)
Deletehaha Schultz would take your whole head of hair with him, just yank it all out
ReplyDeleteYou are right about that!
DeleteHmm. I think my Lab would love it if I got gum/peanut butter in my hair.
ReplyDeleteIf he's like my dog, I'm sure he would!
Deletelol, that's a new one to me. I must remember that. Shame I don't have a dog though. ;)
ReplyDeleteI wonder how a gold fish would work? ;0)
DeleteI've never heard of that for the gum in the hair problem. Our dog might like the adventure. He's rather fond of peanut butter, but my hair might not be too happy with the remedy.
ReplyDeleteMy hair wouldn't be happy at all!
Deletetried this when young...it didn't work too well :D
ReplyDeleteHaha! Your dog probably pulled out more hair than gum!
DeleteLol! I wouldn't let a dog near my child's head!
ReplyDeleteI'd be really nervous about that, too!
DeleteYeah, peanut butter really does work as does ice rubbed over the gum.
ReplyDeleteAble to sit on my hair until I was 11 I can remember my mam sitting crying as both my sister and I had our hair cut into wedges which were all the rage then.
I never did the wedge thing, but I do remember when that style was popular.
