Tomorrow Bubba, my ten-year-old son, gets braces. And you know what that means. No more popcorn, gum, caramel, or gummy worms! The boy is not pleased.
"Mama," he said. "Can we go to the store?"
"What for?" I asked.
"So I can get a box of popcorn . . . and potato chips, and gummy worms."
"Bubba, you're not going to binge on snacks. I'll make you some popcorn, but if you eat all that other stuff, you'll gain ten pounds in one day!"
He shrugged. "But I'll have two years to lose it."
Right.
Before I go, I would like to give a huge thanks to Janie Junebug, for featuring Ten Zany Birds on her blog, Tracy, for featuring That Mama is a Grouch on her blog, and Medeia and Deanie for their reviews of Ten Zany Birds! You guys rock!
Also, I found out that there was a problem with the Kindle version of Ten Zany Birds, where the text did not appear in the conversion. It looked like a wordless picture book. It's been fixed. If you purchased the Kindle version, and did not receive the update, please let me know and I'll send a PDF. (The hard copy is fine.)
He has a point!
ReplyDeleteYes, he does! (And how did you manage to be first even at this time?) :)
DeleteFavorite Young Man and The Hurricane had braces. They managed just fine without certain foods. Bubba will live.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie, and you're welcome
My daughter survived. I'm sure he will, too.
DeleteYou're the best! Hugs!
Your son is too funny. I can see why he wanted to binge- but having your favorite is probably the most important. Hope the braces are smooth sailing!
ReplyDelete~Jess
He's been sore for the last couple of days!
DeleteLOL, I like Bubba's logic... XD
ReplyDeleteHe's brilliant.
DeletePoor, sweet boy. At least fudge can melt in your mouth! ;)
ReplyDeleteTrue. He's been wanting cold water to numb the pain.
DeleteAll well, at least it's not forever. Maybe he'll lose the taste for them while he has the braces on.
ReplyDeleteBraces are good for dieting, that's for sure!
DeleteYou're son is alway thinking... too cute Sherry xox
ReplyDeleteYes, he is.
DeleteBless his heart... two years??
ReplyDeleteI would ask for exactly the same thing!!
~shoes~
Two years is a long time. I hope he survives.:)
DeleteI had braces for two and a half years. I was able to eat popcorn, chips, and even apples (sliced very thin). The only things I didn't eat were caramel, peanutbutter, and gum. As long as it's not super hard or super sticky, it can be worked with. A water pick is very handy for keeping the teeth clean. Do NOT let him use whitening toothpaste though or his teeth will look really funny when he gets the braces off. (Also, it's best to take a Tylenol thirty minutes before an appointment to get the wires tightened because it will result in soreness every time.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about whitening toothpaste. He's never used it, and I'll make sure he doesn't during the life of his braces.
Deletewell, the boy is certainly right!
ReplyDeleteYes. Even I can't argue with that logic.
DeleteI understand his point!. makes sense:)
ReplyDeleteYes, it does. :)
DeleteTrue, ten pounds won't last long over 2 years
ReplyDeleteI think he's lost about 2 already. :)
DeleteHe needs one last binge
ReplyDeleteHe had it. Now he doesn't want to eat.
DeleteAlways planning ahead, lol.
ReplyDeleteI think that was great planning. Now he doesn't want to eat because his teeth hurt.
DeleteLoving his logic.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the mention. I shared your book with my great-nephew (4 and a 1/2) and as I suspected he loved it.
I'm so happy he enjoyed it!
DeleteThat poor boy! My second kid is a snack food junkie! He'd die if he couldn't eat those things:)
ReplyDeleteMy son definitely cut down on his snacking these last couple of days!
DeleteHaha! Smart kid!
ReplyDeleteAlways thinking!
DeleteI do think he has a point. One last snack binge before he can't eat that food for two years.
ReplyDeleteHe had two bags of popcorn. That was a binge!
DeleteStopping by to say hello!
ReplyDeleteI hope the two years of wearing braces fly by for Bubba. I'll bet there are lots of great snacks that he can still enjoy. : )
Hey Susanne! Good to "see" you again! Hope you're doing well!
DeleteHahahaha, two years to lose it.
ReplyDeleteI think he's lost two pounds already.
DeleteThat reminds me of the trend from about 20 years ago or so of people wiring their jaws shut to lose weight. They'd have to live on Slim-Fast!
ReplyDeleteI remember that. That was nuts!
DeleteI like his thinking!!
ReplyDeleteI can't argue with him on that one.
DeletePoor Bubba. Braces and on top of that no snack foods. You'll have to come up with replacements that he can eat easily. Congrats on the features and good reviews for 10 Zany Birds! I hope you get many many more!! :)
ReplyDeleteOatmeal and yogurt seem to be what he wants. Those are healthy!
DeleteI have let my daughter to read your book titled "That mama is a Grouch".
ReplyDeleteI hope she likes it!
DeleteHe has a point. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember being bad and eating those banned foods, breaking a bracket or two. It wasn't too often. I should've been more mindful of my braces, since there are alternatives to those foods.
I think my daughter broke a bracket eating chips once. That was the last time she did that.
Delete"Two years to lose it." Haha, I love it! :) I won't be able to argue with that. I guess he deserves one last binge.
ReplyDeleteI let him have a popcorn binge. Two bags! :)
DeleteAnd two years is admittedly a long time, especially when you're his age, so...
ReplyDeleteTwo years is a really long time.
DeleteYour son's logic is spot on...of course he will have the time to lose it!
ReplyDeleteEspecially since his mouth hurts so much and he doesn't want to eat!
DeleteHahaha...once again Bubba has all the answers!
ReplyDeleteIt never fails!
DeleteBubba is right again, Mama. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's almost like he's never wrong. Almost. ;0)
DeleteGood luck with the braces. It may be tough for him, but he'll make it. ~~~ Sorry to hear about the Kindle mess up. That sort of stuff sucks. We authors have enough to worry about.

It took a while to get the Kindle thing fixed. At least now that's one less headache. It's amazing how much authors have to go through. We should get paid more. ;0)
DeleteGood luck to Bubba! And hopefully he got a treat before he got them on.
ReplyDeleteHe did!
DeleteBubba is the King Of Logic... his own special brand, of course!
ReplyDeleteI really love your zany birds book cover. It's so vibrant!
The illustrations turned out really well. All watercolor.
DeleteAnd yes, Bubba is definitely the King of Logic!
I like the way Bubba thinks. I don't usually let my students eat candy in class, but one boy was scheduled to get braces later that day. Of course I had to make an exception -- and allow him to bounce off the walls a bit.
ReplyDeleteI bet you're his favorite teacher, now!
DeleteThe boy does make a good point. My girl just got her braces off. They weren't so bad.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing my daughter wanted when her braces came off, was popcorn.
DeleteI like his thinking. Pretty soon I'm going to have to get those invisalign adult braces to fix a slight crookedness in a few teeth. And I'm certain I'm going to eat popcorn, potato chips, and gummy worms as a way of preparing... even if I still can eat those things after getting the braces.
ReplyDeleteI might need those invisaline things, too. These days, they put in permanent retainers, so you don't have to worry about your teeth shifting. Enjoy those gummy worms!
