Scaredy Cat

Our cat, Bootsy, is a brave feline. We didn't think he'd be afraid of anything. Turns out, we were wrong.

My son, Bubba, decided he was going to parade around the house in his Halloween costume. Usually, Bootsy doesn't care. Nothing phases him. Not Darth Maul. Not the Grim Reaper. Not Freddy Kruger. But for some reason, Bootsy didn't like this costume. What did my boy wear? A plain white mask, a black fedora, and a button-down collared blue shirt. It freaked the poor cat out. He took one look at my boy, meowed the strangest sound I've ever heard, and ran for cover.

Who knows what went on in the poor cat's mind, but if Bubba had that affect on him, I'm worried about what's going to happen to the poor souls who have to lay eyes on him when he Trick-or-treats on Halloween!

  1. Hi, Sherry!

That's peculiar, isn't it? Even when she was still a puppy, our dog Toto never got spooked when Mrs. Shady and I dressed in costumes at Halloween. I suppose she relied on her sense of smell and knew it was us. Perhaps the black and white "markings" on Bubba reminded Bootsy of an aggressive enemy cat and that's why he bolted from the room.

Have a nice week, dear friend Sherry!

    1. I have a feeling Bootsy didn't like the expressionless face. It didn't seem human.

  2. Makes you wonder what creature looked like that in Bootsy's past.

    1. Bootsy probably never encounter a pure white, expressionless face.

  3. Poor Bootsy, maybe it was the smell, not the look? :P

    1. I think Bootsy is okay with masks that have expressions, even if they're gory. He hates non-expressions.

  6. I hope Bootsy in a calm frame of mind when the urchins stop by on Halloween, otherwise he might need to hide the whole time.

    1. He's usually pretty calm about everything. I think he'll be fine.

  7. I'm assuming that the costume reminded the cat of some trauma from the cat's past. Then again, maybe it smelled funny?

    1. I think it was the white non-expression of the face. It's kind of creepy.

  9. That's a weird one for your cat to be freaked out about. Probably something from his past. Hope you son is enjoying Halloween. I always used to love it with my daughter.

    1. He's at the tail end of Trick-or-treating. The boy is a teenager now. My daughter, who is 16, is not going out this year.

    1. Sorry, no picture. The boy wouldn't let me take one.

  13. Those masks can be pretty scary! It's funny the things that spook animals.

  14. Aw, poor Bootsy. My dog used to freak out and bark at me when I simply wore sunglasses. So, I can see how a mask that covers the entire face, no matter how plain, could scare a pet!

    1. This one had no expression, so it probably looked really freaky to the cat.

  15. Poor cat. She must have been so spooked out by the mask.

  16. I think you are right when you say it was probably the face (or lack of one) that scared poor Bootsy. I hope he got some kind of treat after this frightening experience

  17. Poor Bootsy! I think it may have been the lack of face. Must have been quite a shock for the kitty and all of you.

    1. It would be a little disconcerting to see a white, expressionless face. Can't say I blame Bootsy.

  18. Aww, hopefully he survived Halloween without getting too spooked! My dad once wore a ball cap and a painter's mask around my childhood cat, and scared the poor thing so badly he fled to the basement and meowed in horror until my dad showed him it was just him.
