Zoo Creatures

"Mom, can I have a sleepover?" my daughter asked.

"Sure," I said.  I figured it would be just one friend.  No problem.

It wasn't just one friend.  It was an army.  I looked at the crowd of girls and my jaw almost fell on the floor.  "You're all sleeping over?" I asked.

They nodded.

Great.

I quickly went into the kitchen to make sure I had enough food for such a crowd.  I did.  Fortunately I had a taco kit in the cupboard and some ground beef in the refrigerator.  I started cooking.

The girls went up to my daughter's room to do whatever teenagers do.

When the tacos were done, I called them down.

I don't know exactly what happened upstairs, but all I know, is that I didn't recognize the creatures that came downstairs.  Several had face masks on. (Think mud masks and creams slopped on.)  Others had mascara lines painted on their faces.  And I don't even know what to say about what they did to their hair.

"Uh, okay," I said.   "I hope you're having fun."

They sat down to eat.

Shortly after, my son, Bubba, came into the room.  He had a box on his head. It was his thinking cap (see previous post for that story).

He sat down, because he wanted a taco.

So, around my table I had a bunch of zoo creatures:  some with masks, some with painted faces, and one with a box on his head.

A pretty typical day in the life of the Mama!

  5. I loved having a houseful of teenage boys or girls, having fun and not getting into trouble. I miss all those kids.

    Love,

  6. That sounds like fun!!! You're a good sleepover mom. My stepdaughter seems to always be at people's houses for sleepovers. I think it's great to get a break for a night, but it sounds like that also means eventually it's your turn to host all those kids in your house! They certainly seem to do a LOT more sleepovers than when I was a kid. Back then, they were called "slumber parties" and they were an event. Now it seems like every night a teen/tween is sleeping at someone else's house!

    1. When I lived in Cincinnati, we had sleepovers all the time. It's just getting started here in Atlanta.

  7. Ha! You should have gotten pictures. That would have been great for her future boyfriends. Not to scare them away, but to say, "Just keep in mind that this is what kids do."

    1. If you don't sweat the small stuff, they're okay. Just don't get too uptight if they don't sleep.

  15. Sleepovers used to be so much fun when I was a kid. Now they are just a load of work. I always feel like I need to clean the entire house just so the kids can mess it up. Then I spend all of my time in the kitchen making food that sometimes ends up being a toy instead of nourishment. Sigh . . . I'm pretty sure my kids like them though.

    1. I don't bother cleaning until they're gone. (Well, maybe I'll clean the bathroom if it looks particularly messy - but that's about it!)
