Miz Lemon

Meet Miz Lemon.  At two years old, she is the oldest living balloon.  Miz Lemon has been a very nice family member.  She's quiet.  She stays out of trouble.  And she's very pleasant.  Unfortunately, Miz Lemon is going through an accelerated aging process.  Every day, she loses more air, and her wrinkles become more pronounced.  I'm afraid Miz Lemon has only a few more days to live.

"I don't want Miz Lemon to die!" said my son.  "I'm going to miss her!"

I put my arm around the boy. "We'll all miss her, Bubba."

"Are we going to have a funeral for her and bury her in the backyard?"

I smiled.  "We will most certainly give her a proper burial."

"Good," said Bubba.  "Because she doesn't deserve to be thrown in the garbage.  She was the best balloon that ever lived!"

  1. Two years is a long time for a balloon.
Maybe he'll want a pet rock next. Those last longer. I still have mine from when I was a kid.

    1. It's shocking, actually. I think it should go in the Guinness Book of World Records.

  3. Two years. She's lived a fruitful life. BTW, modern technology has ways of prolonging "life" if you want the lovely "miz" to live a little bit longer. :) Or have you signed her "DNR" forms?

  4. Oh how sad Sherry, most tear jerking even if it is a balloon it became part of your family.

  5. I can't believe my balloon story has been beaten! At a friend's 13th birthday party, we blew up balloons and put them all around the house. Well, we thought we found and popped them all the next day, but literally on her 14th birthday, we found a balloon hiding behind the tv stand and her desk that was so covered in dust it had turned gray.

    1. That's good! Yes, this one is older. I think she would've lived longer, but my son accidentally ran her over with the rocking chair.

    1. This was highly unusual. I'm trying to remember if I blew it up, or my daughter did. It must have been some good air!

  13. Lemon in the sky with diamonds. Don't worry, Ms. Lemon. When you die, we will always think of you floating in the sky. I am the egg man. I am the egg man. I am the walrus.

  17. 2 years is like a million years in human years. Especially considering that a typical balloon lives about 1 week, so I would say that is about 75 human years. So 75X104= a very long life! Wow!
