Miz Lemon
Meet Miz Lemon. At two years old, she is the oldest living balloon. Miz Lemon has been a very nice family member. She's quiet. She stays out of trouble. And she's very pleasant. Unfortunately, Miz Lemon is going through an accelerated aging process. Every day, she loses more air, and her wrinkles become more pronounced. I'm afraid Miz Lemon has only a few more days to live.
"I don't want Miz Lemon to die!" said my son. "I'm going to miss her!"
I put my arm around the boy. "We'll all miss her, Bubba."
"Are we going to have a funeral for her and bury her in the backyard?"
I smiled. "We will most certainly give her a proper burial."
"Good," said Bubba. "Because she doesn't deserve to be thrown in the garbage. She was the best balloon that ever lived!"

Two years is a long time for a balloon.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he'll want a pet rock next. Those last longer. I still have mine from when I was a kid.
Pet rocks definitely last longer. We may have of few of those hanging around somewhere.
DeleteTwo years! That is amazing. Never heard of such a thing. She will be missed:(
ReplyDeleteIt's shocking, actually. I think it should go in the Guinness Book of World Records.
DeleteTwo years. She's lived a fruitful life. BTW, modern technology has ways of prolonging "life" if you want the lovely "miz" to live a little bit longer. :) Or have you signed her "DNR" forms?
ReplyDeleteHaha! Sure, we'll put her on the respirator. ;0)
DeleteOh how sad Sherry, most tear jerking even if it is a balloon it became part of your family.
ReplyDeleteVery sad, indeed. ;0)
DeleteThe Methuselah of balloons!
ReplyDeleteShe's an ancient one!
DeleteI can't believe my balloon story has been beaten! At a friend's 13th birthday party, we blew up balloons and put them all around the house. Well, we thought we found and popped them all the next day, but literally on her 14th birthday, we found a balloon hiding behind the tv stand and her desk that was so covered in dust it had turned gray.
ReplyDeleteThat's good! Yes, this one is older. I think she would've lived longer, but my son accidentally ran her over with the rocking chair.
DeleteFarewell to Miz Lemon. Wish I could restore her vigor but I can't.
ReplyDeleteThat's okay. She's lived a good life. ;0)
DeleteHoly cow! That's an impressively long lasting balloon. Miz Lemon, thank you for your service in inspiring today's youth. You will be missed.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a balloon live that long!
DeleteAww. At least Miz Lemon had a nice, long life. Two years is usually unfathomable for a balloon!
ReplyDeleteThis was highly unusual. I'm trying to remember if I blew it up, or my daughter did. It must have been some good air!
DeleteWow, that is like 100 in human years
ReplyDeleteIt is. She's ancient!
DeleteWow, two years. Amazing and you know ... I do love seeing the picture of her. She's brilliant.
ReplyDeleteShe's a good looking balloon, if I do say so myself. ;0)
Deletetwo years? who ever filled her with air would be deadly behind a podium :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm not sure if it was me or my daughter. Probably my daughter! ;0)
DeleteI don't know why that cracked me up so much, but it definitely did. Have a good weekend, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a laugh out of it. Hope you have a great weekend as well!
DeleteLemon in the sky with diamonds. Don't worry, Ms. Lemon. When you die, we will always think of you floating in the sky. I am the egg man. I am the egg man. I am the walrus.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Haha! Only you would come up with that.
DeleteTwo years is a very long time for a balloon. Love the name Miz Lemon. She can feature in a Picture Book which the kids will love.
ReplyDeleteI'll give her new life in a picture book! ;0)
DeleteThat's one amazing balloon! We've never gotten any to last more than a few months.
ReplyDeleteThat's usually as long as ours last. This was unusual.
DeleteMy condolences.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteMaybe she needs new life blown into her
ReplyDeleteToo late. Miz Lemon is dead. :(
Delete2 years is like a million years in human years. Especially considering that a typical balloon lives about 1 week, so I would say that is about 75 human years. So 75X104= a very long life! Wow!
ReplyDelete~Jess
A very long life indeed!
DeleteI'll light a candle for Miz Lemon and make sure no balloons get near the flame!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteSo...in balloon years...that's like...200?
ReplyDeleteMaybe 2000!
DeleteI can relate. Every day my wrinkles become more pronounced and my wallet is shrinking too.
ReplyDeletePoor you. If you and Miz Lemon got together, you'd have a lot to commiserate about.
DeleteWow, why didn't anyone ever tell me balloons lived that long? Miz Lemon must be SO much more low maintenance than my 4 dogs...
ReplyDeleteWay less maintenance than any fur ball!
DeleteShe surely lived long...RIP now.
ReplyDeleteYes. We gave her a good funeral. May she rest in peace!
DeleteThat's the oldest balloon I've ever seen. I didn't know a balloon could last so long.
ReplyDeleteI didn't either!
DeleteI'm impressed by Ms. Lemon's stamina.
ReplyDeleteShe did live for long for a balloon! Maybe she was a special balloon?
ReplyDeleteVery special! She had good air and a good knot!
DeleteHe is very tender indeed. I would let him know how Miss Lemon appreciates him.
