Last night, when I went into my son's room to tuck him in, I didn't see him. I wondered where he might be. Then I spied a giant box on the floor, flipped upside down. I suspected I might find the missing kid under it. Sure enough, I found the boy curled up in a little ball under the box.
"How did you find me?" he asked.
"Well, Bubba, it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a box is a good place to hide."
He grinned. "You know what else boxes are good for?"
"No, Bubba. What else are they good for?"
"Going for airplane rides." He flipped the box over and sat inside. Then he opened the flaps on the sides. "See. Wings!" He flipped the back flap open. "Tail!" Then he proceeded to make airplane sounds.
I just watched, amused by his creativity.
When he was done, he curled up inside. "I'm tired from all that flying. So now my box will be a bed." He closed the flaps over him. "Goodnight!"
Bubba did a good job repurposing that box (-: All he needed was a landing strip for his plane.

DeleteThe imagination of a child knows no bounds. Sometimes I suspect they use more of their cerebral cortex than many adults. :)

DeleteLOL How sweet! And intelligent. I'd find Bubba curled up fast asleep in the strangest places....under the cabinet of my 1940 Domestic sewing machine, in the dirty clothes hamper, all over the house.

DeleteI like that. I wish my dad were here to teach how to fly an airplane. Before my first flight, he drew little pictures and taught me what makes a plan stay up. I don't remember any of the information, but I remember that he took the time to teach me.

ReplyDeletehaha! You know, that's actually a cool name for an airline. I'll have to tell my boy. There's already a flight path named after him (his grandpa is an air traffic controller/flight path designer).

DeleteAwww, this is the best toy every kid can have! A box. It unlocks the imagination. I aspire to have my daughter create different things from it someday too. My husband and his brother used to create helmets out of boxes and foam when they were kids. So happy to see Bubba enjoy playing with a carton :)
