Favorite Summer Vacation Spot Blog Hop - Cozumel
Today, I'm participating in the Favorite Summer Vacation Spot blog hop, hosted by Lexa Cain. My favorite destination? Cozumel, Mexico. Specifically, the Scuba Club resort located there.
These pictures are from 1995, so we're talking ancient history, but I thought you'd all enjoy seeing the place, rather than me just blabbering about it.
This is a Scuba diver's paradise. You get up in the morning, have a traditional Mexican breakfast, and then head out on the dive boats for a little of this:
When you get back, you hose off your Scuba gear, hose off yourself, grab some lunch, and do a little of this:
In case you're feeling adventurous, you can take a little trip - either stay on the island to see the center of town or some ruins, or go for the ferry ride to the mainland and see this:
(This is Chitzen Itza, in case you don't recognize it. Very cool place!)
At night, it's time for a fiesta. On the beach. You might even try doing this:
Yes, that's me, taking a swing at the piñata. Let me tell you, I did an awesome job messing that thing up!
If you're not tired after all that, you might try doing a night dive. Another very cool thing. Or go into town and dance the night away at one of the discos. Let me tell you how crazy that can get!
When it's all done, you might grab a few hours of sleep. Then you'll get up and to it all again.
It's been a long time since I've been to Cozumel, but after four times there, I'd say it's still one of my favorite vacation destinations!
Here's one more picture for the road, just for those of you who like pictures. This one was taken at the Cozumel airport, and this is the group I went with in 1995. I am in the first row, third from the left, wearing a white shirt and black shorts:
I hope you enjoyed my favorite vacation destination. What's yours?
A little add-on: I didn't realize this was co-hosted by a lot of bloggers. They're doing giveaways, so be sure to check them all out:

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Sherry. Glad you had fun there. We have friends who've been to that area several times too.
ReplyDeleteIt's really a great place - especially if you love the water.
DeleteWow, you'll never be bored there.
ReplyDeleteNope. Always a ton of fun under the sun!
DeleteYou are so adventurous. I left my heart in San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I've been there. But it was rainy and cold. So my heart stays in Cozumel. ;0)
DeleteBeautiful area, and it's obvious you were having a great time.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, favourite...... probably Santa Rosa, CA and it's environs. Delightful small city and a variety of climates, etc... within a short drive, not far from San Francisco either. I'd live there if I could!
Santa Rosa is very nice. California has a lot of nice areas.
DeleteI love Cozumel. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've heard Cozumel is beautiful but it also looks mega fun as well! Sharks, though, gotta' think about sharks...
ReplyDeleteI'm not afraid of no sharks. ;0) Actually I was very comfortable swimming with the black tips, hammerheads, and nurse sharks. When you're at their same level, you can keep a good eye on them. I'd be more nervous if I was swimming on the surface, and I looked like dinner. And I might be a little nervous around a Great White or Tiger Shark. Those bad boys are ugly! (So are barracudas, but that's another story!) :)
DeleteThere is so much to do there.
ReplyDeleteDid you break the pinata and get the candy?
Yes, I did! There were lots of cheers from the onlookers when I made the first major hole, and the candy spilled out!
DeleteThe closest I ever got to Cozumel is at a restaurant here in town. lol I love Mexican food! I love reading about and seeing all the wonderful photos with this hop today. It looks like you have some fantastic memories with these shots! Thanks for the visit. It was nice meeting you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite vacation spot - the Pine Tree State #bloghop
The food in Cozumel was really good! Sometimes you have to be careful though, because one time I ate at some hole in the wall place, and got sick.
DeleteWow! You had me at Mexican food! The place looks like so much fun and so beautiful too. That stepped pyramid is awesome! I hope you get to go back and introduce your son to it someday soon. Thanks for joining the hop! :)
ReplyDeleteCozumel was a ton of fun! I wonder how different it all looks 15 + years later.
DeleteLooks like a great place to get away to. Maybe you'll just have to plan another trip there soon.
ReplyDeleteThat would be fun. In another couple of years both of my kids will be old enough to dive, so maybe we can do a family trip.
DeleteIt looks like a great vacation spot. I've been across the border to Mexico, but that's all. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteNot a whole lot to see just over the border, unless Tijuana is your thing. Cozumel is much better!
DeleteMexico is always a great choice. I haven't been scuba diving, but the snorkeling is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYes. You can see a lot just snorkeling.
DeleteIt is hard to decide... It could be backpacking in the Sierras or along the Pacific at Point Reyes, or maybe paddling the Green River though Canyonlands, or maybe watching the sunrise from a volcano in Indonesia, or maybe... :) I've been to Chitzen Itza, but a town that is a ways off the beaten path, Izamal, really excited me.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Izamal. I liked it! You have such fabulous adventures. I'd do the sunrise thing from a volcano in Indonesia. Sounds awesome!
DeleteI've never been diving but have friends that do. They love this place as well.
ReplyDeleteThe diving is really good. I like the people there, too. I had many good friends that seemed like family. I'll have to go back just to see how they're doing. :)
DeleteCozumel has always been special and I've been a couple of times. Will be back again in Nov. and I'm reserving one of those hammocks.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Have fun!
DeleteI haven't been to Cozumel, but I have heard it was a divers paradise. I have however been to Chitzen Itza. Looking at those hammocks, maybe one day I will take my SCUBA certified girls.
ReplyDeleteThose hammocks are so relaxing! I really enjoyed laying there watching the sun go down.
DeleteNever been, but sounds like you'll need a vacation after that vacation. so much to do. When I was younger, but no, all I want to do is sit on the beach and contemplate the ocean. LOL Sounds like a blast and a wonderful memory.
ReplyDeleteYes. Usually my vacations are whirlwind things. Once in a while though, I'll take one where I do nothing. Just did that in Hilton Head, South Carolina recently. It was nice!
DeleteVery exciting... loved seeing your travel photos. Mexico is on my to-travel list:)
ReplyDeleteIt's a fun place!
DeleteI just went to Mexico this past year and loved it! I will have to look for the Scuba shop the next time. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to visit this place!
DeleteThe pictures say it all...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful spot!
The pictures really bring back a lot of nice memories for me!
DeleteLooks like a wonderful spot. I've never been to Mexico or scuba dived, but I'd love to do both.
ReplyDeleteIf you like outdoor adventures, you would probably enjoy this place.
DeleteImpossible to feel bored in such a place. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't bored a minute!
Deletelooks gorgeous, especially the historical part.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I've never been to a vacation nor to the sea or ocean.
I hope someday that changes. The ocean is a beautiful thing to see.
DeleteI'm not usually one for the idea of traveling, but I'd love to see those Central American pyramids up close.
ReplyDeleteI climbed to the top. The view was pretty good!
DeleteI've been to Mexico, but not Cozumel. I would love to sit in one of the hammocks today.
ReplyDeleteThose hammocks are the best. I actually bought one. I have yet to set it up.
DeleteThis is so cool. I've always wanted to go to Mexico. Well, this part of Mexico, not 'walk into a back alley and get your head chopped off by the cartel' Mexico.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I wouldn't want to deal with the cartel Mexico.
DeleteI fondly remember Cozumel, because that's where I attended a sweat lodge. Despite how the press portrays sweat lodges, I had a wonderful experience.

Glad you had a great time!
DeleteThat's an amazing vacation spot Sherry, a diver's paradise.Love the hammocks. A destination at the top of my mind right now is New Zealand where I first had my first backpacking experience. We loved it so much we even almost moved there.
ReplyDeleteMy mom went to New Zealand and loved it, too.
DeleteWhilst not my idea of a perfect destination - too hot if nothing else - the historic aspect does hold some appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, it warmed up an otherwise cold 'summer' day here no end.
Sorry it's cold in your neck of the woods. It's hot here!
DeleteHow beautiful! I have a fear of Mexico...I think because of all of the craziness going on in the rest of the country! I know that's probably far away, but I always fear the crime will travel...
ReplyDeleteCozumel was very safe. But that was 20 years ago. I hope it hasn't changed.
DeleteSounds perfect vacation spot to me!
ReplyDeleteI think it is!
DeletePICTURES!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd be pleased!
