I bet you think I'm referring to my son, Bubba when I say "Mister Forgetful." Nope. I'm talking about my husband.
The other day, the man was looking for his keys. "Where did I put them?" he asked as we were trying to get out the door.
I shrugged. "Who knows? Why don't you consult your Tile app."
For those of you who don't know, Tile is a handy dandy device that helps you locate missing objects. You attach the tile chip to the object. Then if you lose the object, you activate the Tile app, and the Tile on the object rings, letting you know where it is. We all felt that Tile was a necessity for my husband, because he is very forgetful!
So, he consulted the Tile app. And the one on the key rang. Do you know where it was? In the garbage! Yep. My man had thrown it away. Thank God for the Tile, or those things would have been history!
Now, it's time for the IWSG post of the month.
The question is: What five writing items are on your desk at any given time?
Well, as I look at the stuff around me, here's what I find:
1. Computer. That's a necessity.
2. A pencil with an eraser.
3. Another eraser, because I erase a lot!
4. A notebook for writing. I write everything by hand before I type it in the computer.
5. A pen. I don't use it much, but it's there. Mostly for marking things in my calendar.
Other things: a computer mouse and pad, four candles (why not? I like them, they look pretty, and they smell good. And if the electricity goes out, I can just light them and continue writing.), and a few books on writing and marketing, which I refer to regularly.
What about you? If you're a writer what's on your desk?
I've got a bunch of Mr. and Ms. forgetfuls in my life, and I love 'em all. They remind me that only G-d is perfect...
ReplyDeleteAs to the list of desk items, I only have one eraser, but lots of post-it note pads.
My post-its are in my drawer, but I do take them out and use them.
DeleteI don't believe I have ever thrown away my keys.
ReplyDeleteComputer! The obvious answer. How did I miss it?
Crazy stuff like throwing away your keys happens when you're doing way too much, have a lot on your mind, and are extremely tired.
DeleteThat's a handy device Sherry, I have quite a few items on my desk but the main thing of course is ,y laptop and me in control of it.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
For us writers, computers are a necessity.
DeleteComputer sure is the needed one haha Can't say my keys ever went in the trash.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I've ever done that, either. But there's always a first time for every thing.
DeleteGlad to know about that app. Thankfully since I slowed down a bit I'm not so forgetful. But I was starting to think forget was my middle name.
ReplyDeleteSlowing down would definitely help. The trouble is, we're all doing things at such a fast pace that's utterly exhausting.
DeleteThat Tile thing sounds wonderful for those who always lose things.
ReplyDeleteI don't actually have a writing desk. I pull out my computer and sit with it on my lap while I sit on my bed. I envy your desk.
I like my desk, too. My husband has his own in his office. It's nice to have my own space to work.
Deletecomputer, pen and paper on my desk.
ReplyDeletehave a great day
Sounds like the basics!
DeleteThanks for the tip on the app. At this point, I don't use a desk. I use the dining room table. I never thought to include my computer as one of the 5 things in my writing space. What a nincompoop! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your holidays!

I'm glad I have a desk. Helps me keep all my writing stuff organized and out of the way of our living spaces.
DeleteOh my! It really is a good thing he had that app. And a computer is most handy when writing. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to get that app on my keys!
DeleteI had never heard of this app or this device. Off to Google now...
ReplyDeleteI think you'll find it useful.
DeleteI love the app. I need to get one for myself (even though I haven't thrown my keys away...yet). I also love that you write things down before you type them. Now I know I'm not alone in my writing practice.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us write that way. I don't know if age has to do with it. I was born long before the computer became a mainstream thing. Maybe I'm more comfortable doing it the old-fashioned way.
DeleteI think I need Tile. I try to hang my keys up in the same place every time I come home, but ... they don't always make it there.
ReplyDeleteI take notes but I don't necessarily write everything before I type.
Happy Writing in December!
Thanks! December is a bit crazy, so only some revising going on. Hope you have a great writing month!
DeleteI need one of those tile apps!
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
They come in handy!
DeleteI'd love that Tile app. Your husband isn't the only forgetful person, nor is he alone in tossing valuables in the garbage.
ReplyDeleteErasers are such great inventions. I wish I had one that could erase those really big life mistakes.
Wouldn't that be nice?
DeleteApart from the usual computer and pen/papers, I wouldn't be able to survive without my trusty diary!
ReplyDeleteI don't do diaries, but I know for some people, they are an important part of their lives.
DeleteI've never heard of this APP but what a great idea. We could have done with this when we locked ourselves out but then can you imagine the frustration of activating the App only to find your keys inside the house when your stood outside? You'd need an App to locate the nearest locksmith.
ReplyDeleteAs to the question What five writing items are on your desk at any given time? Apart from the obvious, there's ...
1. A box of wipes; antibacterial for my hands and those anti-static ones for cleaning the computer screen
2. A wind up toy that I got in a box of Kinder chocolates. Bought at an airport in Germany, he walks backwards guiding the planes into place
3. Post-it-notes of various sizes
4. A memory stick
5. A bottle of ink. Neither Mr T nor I often put pen to paper these days but when any correspondence needs signing he likes a fountain pen
Your wind up toy sounds cute. And that's cool that you have a fountain pen. I don't recall ever having written with one of those.
DeleteDoh! Yeah, that Tile app sounds like a good thing! I wonder if that's where some of the things I've lost have ended up?
ReplyDeleteIn the garbage? Possibly! :)
DeleteMy writing desk is usually my lap, with a laptop, on public transit:)
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be very busy, going here and there, so that doesn't surprise me. I take my notebook and pencil wherever I go. Not so high tech. :)
DeleteI like that you write everything by hand!
ReplyDeleteYour hubby is funny! LOL! I have to tell you. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't find my keys. Guess where I found them? Outside in the mail box!!! They were out there all night! So lucky no one took them! I must have been really tired! LOL! Big Hugs!
I'm glad you found them! I totally understand being exhausted. When my kids were little I used to do things like put the milk in the cupboard and the peanut butter in the refrigerator. I even drove around town with my purse on the roof of my car!
Deletehave a great weekend
ReplyDeleteThanks, you too.
DeleteI have a huge writing desk with three monitors! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteWow! Three monitors? I thought my husband's two were something!
DeleteNo kidding! I was just about to take out the garbage, too!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's a very good thing your forgetful hubby was able to locate the key, Sherry.
