IWSG and Latin Flavors Blog Hop Sign Up

I nearly forgot about the IWSG post. As I was outside jogging, the thought popped into my head that I needed to do the post. Must've had a few brain cells that needed to be knocked into place!

So, this month's question is, "If you could choose one author living or dead to be a Beta Partner, who would you choose and why?"

One author? I guess I would choose Rick Riordan. He's the author of the Kane Chronicles and the Olympians series. If you don't know middle-grade authors, you've probably never heard of him. I like this guy's writing style. He has well-developed, multi-faceted characters, lots of action, imagination, and he manages to teach kids about Egyptian and Greek mythology. Since I strive to do similar things in my Bubba and Squirt series, I think he'd be ideal as a Beta reader.

Now, if I could choose more, I'd chose Mitch Albom (author of Tuesdays with Morrie) because he's a great story-teller and creates characters that evoke emotional responses. And I would choose Frances Hardinge (author of a Face Like Glass) because this woman is a serious wordsmith! I've never read such vivid descriptive writing. She makes scenes come to life.

Do you know these authors? Who would you want as your Beta Partner?

If you saw my previous post, you know I'm doing a Latin Flavor blog hop to help get the word out about my upcoming release, Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure.  If you'd like to learn more or participate, visit my previous post. Thanks to all who have already signed up!

  1. Hi, Sherry! Happy IWSG Day, and kudos to you for getting a post up! These Covid Days all mush together! I know Mitch Albom, but not the other writers. One of my favorite middle school books is "The Prince of the Pond: Otherwise Known as De Fawg Pin" by Donna Jo Napoli. I would definitely choose her as a beta reader, because I could use serious help with humor ~ but this book is so much more than funny. Good luck with your book release! Take care!

We've all had a whole lot knocked out of place, haven't we.
As to an author I would love as a Beta, it would be Rebecca Stead. The way she constructs stories is genius.

  7. Have you read Gary Schmidt. He teaches (or taught) at Calvin in Grand Rapids, but has written a series of great young adult books. He might make a good beta reader, too.

  8. Hi, Sherry!

The disruption to our daily lives caused by the viral crisis has many of us distracted, walking into walls and forgetting what day it is. I enjoyed your responses to this month's IWSG question. In most cases it is difficult to choose only one author as a beta partner. Selecting several authors and forming a beta team would be even more beneficial to your writing craft. In similar fashion, motivational seminar participants are encouraged to form a "board of directors" consisting of famous successful people and great leaders, living or dead, to advise and guide them.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Sherry!

    1. I think you can learn so much from a lot of different people. Two heads are better than one, as they say.

  10. Sherry, thank you for dropping by my blog! I've heard of Riordan--my kids absolutely love his works.

I puzzled over this month's question too long that I couldn't quite decide whom! Hmmm

    1. They are all very different, but I think that would be what would make them such a great team of beta readers.

    1. I've seen quite a few authors pick Steven King. He's a great writer, but I think I'd be a little intimidated by him. Maybe it's because he writes scary stuff. LOL!

  18. Hands off Mitch Albom, when it comes to Beta Partners he is definitely someone I'd pick along with ...
Bram Stoker and Stephenie Meyer who, if nothing else I'd love to discuss vampires with
