IWSG Post of the Month

So, in this completely upside-down messed up week, I totally forgot to post for IWSG. Better late than never.

Today's question is:  What was the strangest thing you've ever had to Google while doing research for writing a book?

I have done a lot of Googling, so it's kind of hard to remember everything, but one that sticks out is when I was Googling taser guns. I wanted to know how they could be tracked. Then I wanted to know the name and exact location of the taser retail store in Moscow, Russia.

Surprisingly, nobody from the KGB showed up at my doorstep to question me.

What about you? What's the strangest thing you've ever had to Google?

Now, to add to this completely messed up week, I just went to Ninja Captain's blog and found a totally different question: Why do you write what you write? Easy: I like kid books. :)

So, whatever. Two questions for the price of one.

  1. No worries a little late! And we'll take two questions. How can taser guns be tracked?

    1. So, those little tags that are released after they are fired are unique to each gun. If you get one of those tags and take it to the taser store, you can find out the serial number of the gun, where it was bought, and who bought it.

  2. Hi, Sherry!

I'm sorry you had a messed up week and lost track of the days, dear friend. Yessum, your question and answer threw me because I saw a different question posed on other participating IWSG blogs. As an author, I'm sure you have executed many odd Google searches as a means of doing background research for your books. I'm drawing a blank as I try to think of my strangest Google activity. However I can answer the second question simply by stating that I love to express my sense of humor and it is reflected in my writing style.

Enjoy your weekend, dear friend Sherry!

  3. All of us are disoriented some this week.
As to the oddest internet search, maybe it was for what wild Turkeys sound like and how one might write it. I was looking to spell out for my picture book, THERE'S A TURKEY AT THE DOOR.

    1. I actually had a friend write a children's book about how wild animals sound and she had to do something similar.

  13. What a great question.

I'd have to say my googling Fairy stories resulted in my being shown to some, err, interesting links ... and was probably the reason I got Mr T to install the child lock

  16. I Googled some holiday traditions in other countries. Maybe that doesn't sound odd, though some of what I found certainly raised an eyebrow.

I hope your November went as well as it could and that you'll experience joy in the coming holiday season.
There's a giveaway on my blog that ends today, if you're interested.
