IWSG Question of the Month and Meet Klaus!

This month's question is:  Everyone has a favorite genre or genres to write. But what about your reading preferences? Do you read widely or only within the genre(s) you create stories for? What motivates your reading choice?

I write for children—picture books and younger middle-grade books. I used to read a lot of those genres, mostly because my kids were young, and I wanted to select books they'd enjoy. But I think my favorite genre to read is historical fiction—the adult variety. I enjoy the history aspect of them. If I read middle-grade books, I like ones that have fantasy/adventure elements. Those are more exciting to me than reading about middle-grade social issues and problems.

What about you? What genres do you enjoy reading?

And now for a drumroll . . .

I would like to introduce you to our newest family member:  Klaus! He came home yesterday, and he's the sweetest little bundle of joy!

  2. Hi, Sherry!

I know you must still have an aching heart over the loss of your three-legged gentle giant Schultz. I can't believe next month will mark a full year since you needed to put him down. I am thrilled to see that you have adopted a new pet to fill the void. I'm sure Schultz would approve of your selection. Klaus is indeed an adorable and photogenic bundle of joy. I know he will bring great happiness and laughter to your family. I hope you'll post pics of him on a regular basis and let us know how things are going.

I read only the genres I write about. I imagine your reading of historical fiction for adults informs your stories written for children and young adults.

I am very happy for you, dear friend Sherry!

    1. Thanks, Tom. The little rascal is at the ex's house, so I can enjoy him without the job of training him and cleaning up after him. That's rather nice!

  3. Ahhh! What a sweetie this guy is. Like Shady, I know Schultz would approve.

I agree with you about MG. It has to be about adventure and friendship. Save the social issues for YA and up.

    2. CONTACT DR. DAVID NOW FOR SOLUTION TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS

After being in a relationship with MARTINS for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that don’t believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I meant a spell caster called Dr DAVID  So i email him, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made a promise that anybody I know that has a relationship problem, I would be of help to such a person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem and who is different from all the fake ones out there. Anybody could need the help of the spell caster, his email: awesomespelltemple@gmail.com or WhatsApp him +2347040654140 you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or anything.

  10. Klaus is a cutie. As for me, I tend to read from many genres: history, memoir, biography, theology, poetry, and an occasional book of fiction or business...

    1. Yes, Klaus is adorable, but he's definitely not Schultz. I find myself comparing the two. Schultz was more of an old soul. This character is a tornado. Fearless!

  12. Oh, such happiness, hope Klaus is behaving! How is Bootsy responding? Was Bootsy heartbroken after Schultzie's demise?

    1. Bootsy misses Schultz. He's not taking to Klaus very well. Klaus barks at Bootsy, and Bootsy wants nothing to do with him.

    2. It is not easy raising new kids at Bootsy's age.

  16. Historical fiction is awesome! I didn't mention it in my blog post. I should have. LOL And YAY for your new GSD! I love his name. (You deserve a hug, too. I know what it's like to adopt another pup after losing a dear one.) Seems brilliant minds think alike. We picked up our new GSD pup this past Sunday. We'll be cyber pup-parents. Haha!

    1. I find myself comparing Klaus to Schultz quite often, and even accidently calling Klaus, "Schultz." They are two very different creatures.

Hope you enjoy your little guy. I'm sure he's keeping you busy!
