IWSG and the End of Bootsy

Today's Insecure Writer's Support Group question is, "What would make you stop writing?"

Not enough time. And unfortunately, I am struggling with the time factor. I manage to write a paragraph here and there, but it's taking me forever to finish the last Bubba and Squirt book. If I had more of me or more hours in the day, then I don't think I'd ever stop writing.

What about you? What would make you stop writing?

And some not so fabulous news:  Our cat, Bootsy, seems to have met his demise. He's always been an outdoor cat (a stray we rescued, but who absolutely refused to live in the house). He usually stays on the back deck and comes for meals like clockwork. But he's been missing. It's been about three weeks now, and no sign of him. I know he didn't like the new German Shepherd, Klaus, but he still never missed a meal.  Bootsy was about 16 years old. So, I think he slinked off to die in peace. We'll miss him. Hopefully, he and Schultz are playing in animal heaven now. RIP, Bootsy!

  1. So sorry about Bootsy. Cats do go to be alone and die, and sixteen is a respectable age for an outdoorsy cat. it's harder for their humans when we don't see them make this transition and never know for sure. Been there.

    1. I had a feeling that was how Bootsy would do it.

  2. Hi, Sherry!

I'm terribly sorry to learn that you have the apparent death of another pet to report, dear friend. Perhaps Bootsy picked up a bad vibe from Klaus and went elsewhere for his meals, but the scenario you suggested seems more likely. Again, I am very sorry for your loss. Maybe Bootsy will surprise everyone and turn up someday.

I can't imagine a time when I would stop writing. Creating characters and writing lines for them is a satisfying outlet, one that allows me to bring forth various facets of my personality.

Take care and have a safe week, if not a happy one, dear friend Sherry!

  6. I'm sorry about Bootsy. He probably went off to die, as I understand animals like to handle the end that way. Having a job for 2 1/2 years pretty much stopped me from writing. I enjoy blogging regularly again.

    Love,
    Janie

  7. What? Bootsy? Oh nooooo! Sometimes they do return, one of my cats disappeared for about a month once and then returned all messed up and hungry, we never uncovered where he'd been. My mother wanted to give his food to neighbour who has a dog, but for some reason I did not want to as if I felt he would come back and he did.

  8. So sorry about Bootsy. Not having enough time is one of the things that could get me to stop writing too. I'm finding that writing a little bit consistently does get projects done. Hope you find more time to write.

    1. I hope so, too. It's a little frustrating since I'm so close to finishing the Bubba and Squirt series.

  9. Poor Bootsy, and I'm sorry for your loss. I totally understand the lack of time as a factor for not writing. That's a huge contributor for me too!

  13. Yeah, time can definitely sift through the hourglass a bit too fast most days, giving little time to write. I think writing a paragraph or two a day is better than nothing, though. I really need to start doing that. Thanks for the inspiration!

So sorry about Bootsy! It's always tough to lose a furry family member.

    1. Even writing a paragraph or two sucks up at least a half hour. I'm definitely a slow, thoughtful writer!

  14. Ah yes. Time. Never enough no matter how early you start or how late you finally quit.

Sorry about your cat. Mine did the same, and I always wished he'd at least stayed with me so I could have been with him until the end.

    1. That was a frustration for both me and my daughter. But I guess I understand. I wouldn't want to be in the middle of chaos and mayhem when I was ready to go.

  15. Ah time! The nemesis for many. Including me. I love your Bubba and Squirt series. All the luck with completing the last one.

Sorry to hear about Bootsy. My neighbor used to care for a stray cat who only came for meals. They even made him a small home to come to on those cold winter nights. All best to you!

  17. Time can be hard to find, especially nowadays. I find that if I have more time to read, I'll also have more time to write. So the more I start doing the more I will do :)

    1. My kids named him. I guess they thought he looked like a fairy tale cat whose name was "Puss in Boots."

  19. So sorry to hear about Bootsy. The same thing happened with my cat a couple years ago. I kept thinking he would come back home and day- but that didn't happen. Sending hugs.

I need more hours in the day for writing too. It can be hard with working a day job. :)

  21. So sorry to hear you lost your cat so soon after losing Schultz. I also seem to find it difficult to have the time to write (what I want to write verses what I have to write).
