Best Thing About my Favorite Genre and Updates

Today's question is, "What's the best characteristic of your favorite genre?" My favorite genre is historical fiction. I like that research is involved to get the facts straight and recreate the time period. It's like going back in time. I also like that historical fiction helps me learn things or reinforces things I already knew.

What's your favorite genre, and what are the things you like about it?

Now, for updates. Many of you who have followed this blog for a long time remember my son, Bubba, and daughter, Squirt. (Not their real names.)  They used to entertain you with their funny antics and humor. Well, they are all grown up now. Five-year-old Bubba is eighteen. He just enlisted in the Navy and started boot camp. He'll be in the military for the next six years. working on cyber security. Squirt is a senior, graduating from college with a degree in music technology and production. It'll be interesting to see what career she ends up with!  And me...I actually completed the last manuscript of the last book of the Bubba and Squirt series. I'm working on revising now. A big accomplishment considering how much is on my plate!  And finally, the next time I post, I'll be married! So hard to believe! It's funny to see how the path of life winds around and takes you to unexpected places!

Hope you all enjoy the lovely autumn season!

    1. I'm really happy he has enlisted. I think he'll have a bright future, although right now, he's probably not having much fun! Thanks about the wedding!

  5. Sorry, Sherry, too many typos. Oh, historical fiction, mine too, and I adore autumn, my favourite time of year. I'm moving into fantasy, but with a slant it is going to be an historical fantasy series, can't wait to begin! Carole.

  6. Love your real life updates. As you enter a new marriage, your lill'ons are departing, and you are finishing the tales they inspired. How perfect it that?

  7. Wow, Sherry - so many exciting developments in your life, dear friend! I'm elated as you prepare to walk down the aisle and begin a new chapter in your life story. Congratulations and best wishes!

I like your answer to the question of the month. I can imagine how much fun it is for you to get a grasp of history as the backdrop for your books and mix in actual facts along with the fiction, learning as you go.

I've been following you a long time, and always picture Bubba as a little boy. It's jarring to know he's 18 now and an enlisted man. I wish him an exciting career in the Navy. And your daughter, same thing. All grown up and ready to graduate college and take the world by storm. You must be very proud of both children.

I don't know how you juggle so many things at once, but life is never dull when you are super busy. Again I wish you much happiness in your new role as a wedded wife, dear friend Sherry!

  9. Great to catch up ... even if it makes me feel soooo old; I mean Bubba and Squirt, one off to join the armed forces, the other, a senior about to graduate college, how did that happen?
Like you, one of my favourite genres is historical fiction {I'm a huge fan of Philippa Gregory}. Though, yes, there is some poetical licence when it comes to some of the facts, I have learnt much from these books and always admire the amount of research that goes into them.
