Messed Up World

I think I caught somebody's Facebook sick status, because I have one awful cold that I can't seem to shake.  It's made me completely lose my voice, which isn't good, because it makes it hard to bark orders at everyone.  (That's my mom job!)

Yesterday, I was trying to tell my son something, and of course he couldn't understand a word I was saying.

"Mama," he said.  "My world is all messed up now!"

"What do you mean?" I whispered hoarsely.

"I can't identify your voice.  And I miss it.  It's one of my favorite voices."

I nodded.

He continued. "How am I supposed to know if you're my Mama, or if you're some alien who just invaded our house?"

Right.  I'm obviously some alien.  I sure hope the real Mama returns soon!

  1. Oh, Sherry - did you breath in my post? 'Cause if you did, I'm the guilty party. Hope you feel better soon. :-)

  5. I remember that feeling when I was very young. It's hard for a child to accept a parent's illness. It means they aren't immortal and that's scary. I hope you feel better soon, and Bubba's world isn't messed up anymore, and the only aliens are on TV! :)

    1. When we're young, we think our parents are invincible. Unfortunately, they're not.

  10. It started off so sweet!

You should try gargling warm salt water and drinking room tempature Dr Pepper (the syrup in it will coat your throat). Also, cold compresses on your face and super hot baths so you're around a lot of steam.

Everyone at my store calls me a doctor and says I should go into medical school because I'm always fixing them without lots of medicine. haha

    1. I've never heard of room temperature Dr. Pepper doing good. That's interesting. We don't have Dr. Pepper in the house, and I'm not going out to get some. So I'll do the hot bath thing, and keep drugging myself with NyQuil so I can sleep at night.

You should be a doctor. You'd be good at it.

  14. Hope you feel better soon! I'm on my second cold this month -- after not getting sick for a couple years. Had to teach my classes without a voice, typing their instructions on the big screen. That was fun.

  19. There's a book series about that--a kid finds out everyone around him has been replaced by aliens. But how SWEET is it that your voice is one of his favorites?!!!

  22. Admitting you're an alien with sarcasm? That sounds exactly like something an alien would do. You're not fooling us.

  26. I do believe you have a developing writer in your family. I see plots every time you share Bubba's conversations. Sorry about the lost voice. I think that bug has spread across the nation. I had it last month.

    1. He has a great imagination. He'd be a good writer if he ever disciplined himself to sit down and write something. Glad you're over the bug. It's a long lasting one!

  29. You nearly made me fall off my chair: it makes it hard to bark orders at everyone. And if you're an alien, what would you call me? (Don't answer that....)
