Dream Theory

My eleven-year-old son seems to be very interested in dreams. He has them nearly every night, and he loves to tell me about them in the morning.

"Mama, I think I know what dreams are," he said.

"What are dreams?" I asked. I couldn't wait to hear this one.

"They're your mind travelling to an alternate universe where you live another life."

"You think?" I asked.

"Yes. And do you know what's cool about them?"

"What?"

"They're like watching television. But without time limits. I can watch my dream for nine hours, and you can't tell me to turn it off."

(I think he has a point!)

Now for the Bubba question of the day: Michael D'Agostino wanted to ask Bubba where the best place was to take a girl out on a date. I wasn't sure if this was such a great question to ask an eleven year old, but since the boy is wise beyond his years, I asked. He said. "Take her to a Chicago Style Pizzaria. The deep dish pizzas are the best!"

I have a few more questions from you, that I need to get answers for. I'll post Bubba's responses. If you have any other burning questions for Bubba, please post them in the comments.

  1. Hi, Sherry! That's as good an explanation of dreams as I've ever heard. I wouldn't dream of debating him about it. :)

I wish you and your family a very happy weekend, dear friend Sherry!

  2. Chicago pizza! He is a smart boy.

    1. That's what I hear. Dreams must be your mind tripping through them.

  4. You should encourage him to write them down--I wish I had written my dreams down as a kid as I've done as an adult. I'll have to think up a good Bubba question.

  5. I think Bubba has a point about dreams. They are like watching TV for nine hours. I also like the alternate universe theory. Pretty smart!

  7. Alternate universe... That sounds like a good what if question.

    1. Maybe you can come up with a Bubba question related to alternate universes.

  8. With Bubba's vivid imagination, I'll bet his dreams are very entertaining. I always enjoyed my dreams, too, and can still remember details of some of the dreams and nightmares I had as a kid.

Deep dish pizza? That boy has good taste, too.

    Happy weekend.

    1. It's amazing that he remembers so many of his dreams. As Sage said, he should write them down.

  9. He's a pretty smart kid. And the best thing about a date at a deep-dish pizza place is that those pizzas take about 45 minutes to cook...so lots of time to get to know each other. I look forward to his next answers!

    1. Very true about getting to know each other in the time it takes to make the pizza. Good point!

  10. Dreams are alternative universes? I visit some really messed-up universes at night, then! LOL.

  11. Gino's East. Actually, that is a good idea to take a date there. It is a long wait, so there's time to talk. And you find out how a person is when they've had to wait 45 minutes to be fed. Very revealing. Plus, you can see what they doodle.

The dream insight, oddly, I read a very similar theory in a scientific email journal last month. (The alternate universe, not the tv you can't shut off. Though that is true... you can't control what's "up here.")

    1. There's a scientific theory that says dreams are your mind visiting alternate universes? That's crazy! I'd like to read that article.

Doodling reveals a lot about people! Good point!

    1. Apparently - especially if the scientific community is embracing such a possibility.

  13. If I'm having fabulous dreams, it does feel like I'm in a movie, as long as it doesn't turn into a nightmare.

  14. Bootsy can certainly turn it off if he scratches his toes in bed

    1. Bootsy is not allowed in bed. He can keep his toe scratching on the scratching post! :)

  15. That's the very reason I asked him - it's an adult question for which he'd have a good answer. He didn't disappoint ;)

  18. Yes, have a question for Bubba: How old is your mother?

  19. Apparently my dreams are just infomercials... boring, mundane, and rather repetitive. Can someone change the channel? And bring some deep dish for the wife and I? It's date night.

  20. I don't mind remembering good dreams but when they are not so good they seem to linger in your mind longer, Clever son you have Sherry.

    1. It's too bad we tend to remember the negative things more than the positive. I guess we have to train our minds not to do that.
