We recently got the hard-wood floors in our house refinished. They look fantastic, but whatever was put on the floors to seal them, has made them really slippery! Everyone has slipped a little. But no one has slipped more than Schultz, our hundred pound German Shepherd.
The quadruped can't seem to control his speed. He goes fast. Unfortunately, that doesn't work so well on slippery floors. He loses his balance and falls on his nose. Or he crashes into the wall.
"Dog, slow down!" I said after his last crash.
He looked at me with his big, brown puppy eyes. Then he walked slowly to the front hall where we have an area rug. When he spotted the rug, he wagged his bushy tail. Then he ran and pounced not- so-gracefully onto the rug. That thing slid across the hall, but he managed to remain upright.
He looked very pleased with himself. Since then, he has done it several more times. He now has a new mode of transportation for navigating our slick rink - his very own magic carpet ride.
We had a similar slippery floor in my childhood home. It was parquet and the dogs skated round it having a fabulous time :) Naturally, mom didn't approve because they left skid marks :)
ReplyDeleteSchultz hasn't left any of those yet. Hopefully he won't, or there might be some upset people here!
DeleteI wonder if he'll grant wishes as well?
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if he did!
DeleteHi, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've got another teenager in the house - 100 pound Schultz. Schultz has discovered the thrill most males derive from engaging in extreme sports. You need to take video of him gliding across the floor on his carpet and post it on YouTube. It will surely go viral and soon, very soon, you will all be starring in your own reality TV series. :)
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Sherry!
That is a very good idea. I'll have to grab a video camera next time he does it.
DeleteOh my... I would probably be like Schultz... I'd go for the magic carpet ride ♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteIt certainly looks like fun!
DeleteLOL! How adorable. I'm thinking that's something to catch on video, eh?
ReplyDeleteYes. That's a great idea!
Deletehaha smart pup indeed. Can get to and fro with a magic carpet.
ReplyDeleteHe's a clever one!
Delete*LOL* Wonder if he wants to be dressed up like Aladdin!
ReplyDeleteProbably not. He'd eat the costume!
DeleteVideo. YouTube. You must show us this.
ReplyDeleteIf I can catch him, I will. I'm not sure he'd do it on cue.
DeleteWe have a German Shepherd, too, and she loves to play tug-o-war, but she desperately tries to drag the game into a carpeted area, knowing we can beat her on the hardwood floor, where she just slides around.
ReplyDeleteOur floors desperately need refinishing ... I can imagine the mayhem that would cause.
We debated whether or not to refinish ours, because of the dog. But we figured it would look better than it previously did.
DeleteI bet the dog wondered what was going on, pleased she found a solution.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
He's a smart one!
Deletehe might need socks!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were just talking this morning that Schultz needs those hospital socks with the non-skid bottoms. ;-)
DeleteSeems like your pet is a pro skater by now. Hahaha! Have a lovely week, babe! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMaybe he should join the American Olympic Hockey Team as their mascot! ;-)
DeleteThat's a hoot! I bet it is fun, though--so can't blame him for riding his rug. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe certainly seems to enjoy it!
DeleteSo funny. Sounds like Schultz may have started a new fad for dogs. :)
ReplyDeleteI bet if we gave him a skateboard, he'd try riding that. He'd need a big one, though.
DeleteThe magic carpet ride sounds like the way to travel! Must be adorable to watch. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
It's pretty funny.
DeleteI'm glad your dog is enthusiastic about it. My dog is terrified of my somewhat slippery kitchen floor.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably be cautious, too. All dogs have different personalities. Just like humans.
DeleteYeah, Peg (our dog) did exactly the same. Not so much as one of our cats (Phog) who having slipped once took great pleasure in taking a run before sliding to see how far she could travel..
ReplyDeleteYour cat sounds like she was quite a character!
DeleteSadly, as our big dog is now 16, he finds it hard to get up on tile and wooden floors and his feet often slip out from him (but he still prefers to sleep there than on carpet). I'm glad you pup has found new amusements!
ReplyDeleteHe always finds ways to entertain himself.
DeleteDogs and cats are hilarious on slick surfaces! So funny that your dog is learning to use a rug as a skateboard! :)
ReplyDeleteHe's about as inventive as my son!
DeleteHe needs collision insurance :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great weekend :)
Haha! Yes, he does!
DeleteLol, how sweet is that! His little own rug carpet ride on the floor. They do the sweetest things!
ReplyDeleteRaindrops of Sapphire
Animals can be hilarious!
DeleteHe's having fun! Would be so adorable to watch him in action :)
ReplyDeleteIf I can catch him on video, I'll share it.
DeleteJust came across ur blog, its amazing
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting.
DeleteLOL, silly Schultz! Hopefully he won't wear out that rug... XD
ReplyDeleteIf he does, I'll have to get one with better traction. ;-)
DeleteThat sounds cute. My cats disturb my rugs all the time. I put some of them underneath heavy furniture so they stop doing that since I was tired of setting them straight.
ReplyDeleteYes. I'm a little tired of setting my rug straight!
DeleteSchultz sounds as if he's ready for prime time.
