Pancake Art

"Mom," my teenage daughter said. "Can you make pancakes?"

"Sure," I said. "Are you craving them?"

She shook her head. "No. I want to make pancake art."

"What?"

"Pancake art. Everybody is doing it. Here, look at these pictures." She rolled through her Instagram photos and showed me all kinds of artistic pancake "carvings" her friends had made. They were impressive.

"Okay," I said. "But when you're done playing with your food, are you going to eat it?"

"No. Carbs aren't good for you."

Right.

In case you want to see a sample of pancake art, here's a picture:

  1. Hi, dear Sherry! Why settle for portraiture? If your daughter is taking requests I'd like her to replicate the Sistine Chapel. :)

    1. I'm thinking now I have a good excuse to burn a little bit of them. It'll add some color. ;0)

  4. Yea, these things are kind of ridiculous. My wife is trying to figure out how to do it but runs into the interesting problem of being an artist but not having ANY cooking experience so...no luck yet. haha

If your daughter wants to make it and not eat it then she should make sure she has someone who will or she should plasticize the good ones.

    1. Could definitely be a problem if you don't know how to make them! You might have to do the cooking for her.

  5. I guess I miss a lot by not being on Instagram or Pinterest--LOL! Those are remarkable, though.

    1. I can't imagine how much time it takes to do this. I certainly don't have the time!

  8. I couldn't eat those, and not because of the carbs. They're too real.

    1. I probably wouldn't want to eat anything that looked like a living animal, either.

  10. Amazing art. I have trouble getting my pancakes to stay together sometimes much less someone create art with them. LOL

  11. I remember seeing photos of pancake art before, but never attempted it myself. I don't believe carbs are bad, so that's probably for the best. It'd be such a shame to eat all that art after creating it, after all! XD

    1. I'm sure the pancakes would be cold by the time the artwork was finished. I wouldn't eat them just because of that. ;0)

  14. Along with coffee art these pancake pictures seem very popular at the moment. A shame to eat them but on the other hand, carbs or not, I couldn't see them go to waste.
