The Haunted School

"Mama," my nine-year-old son said as he got off the bus.  "Our school is haunted!"

I looked at the kid.  "Right.  Why do you think that?"

"The lights flickered on and off all day."

"That doesn't mean anything," I said.  "There could've been a power malfunction."

"But the mirror in the restroom shook, too!"

"That could've been caused by a vibration from the air conditioner."

Another kid came up behind us and put his two cents in.  "Mrs. Ellis, the school really is haunted!"

"How do you know?"  I asked.

"The pressure changed in the fifth grade hall and we all heard demonic voices."

Okay.

So, what do you think?  Is the school haunted? (I think the demonic voices were the janitors cussing out the utility companies!)

  1. How do those kids know what demonic voices sound like? Do they know Dr. X?

  4. Hmmm, that depends. Is the school built atop an ancient burial grounds? Otherwise, I don't think any self-respecting demon would hang around a school. All that talk about pop quizzes and homework would scare them off.

  10. Maybe it was the ghosts of janitors past who didn't want to leave.

  13. It definitely could have been the janitors, especially if they were having a bad day. Maybe they were totally frazzled with all the little urchins scurrying around.

  14. I hear demonic voices every day at our school -- in the teachers' lounge.

  16. Don't know if the school is haunted or not, but ghosts would certainly be more interesting than homework any day!

  18. I would have for sure asked them what the demonic voices were saying...and who exactly brought up the idea the school could be haunted in the first place? ;)
