Dirty Dog

Apparently, our German Shepherd, Schultz, likes baths.  I have come to this conclusion because lately, he has done everything possible to ensure he gets one every day.

Three days ago, he came in, covered with mud from head to toe.  He shook himself and mud splattered all over the walls.

"Schultz, that's disgusting," I said.  "You need a bath!"

He cocked his head and charged upstairs to the bathtub, leaving a trail of muddy footprints all over the carpet.

We gave him a bath, and he was clean and shiny.  (Of course our bathroom was not. It needed a bath after Schultz got done in there.)

The next day, my husband let him outside.

"He's going to get dirty," I warned.

Sure enough, he chased the neighbor's dogs along the fence line and got filthy.

"Crate!" I hollared.

He trotted in, leaving another trail of mud.  We filled the tub with water and sent him upstairs.  He charged into the bathtub, happy as could be.

Afterwards, he was clean and shiny, but our bathroom was not.

The next day, my son let him out.

"You are kidding," I said.  "Don't you people believe in leashes?"  I called the dog back, but it was too late.  He was covered in mud.  I sent him to his crate.  "Schultz, you should be ashamed of yourself!"

He wasn't.  He sat in his crate with his tongue hanging out, and a huge smile plastered on his furry, muddy face.  He knew he was getting another bath.

That dog is pretty smart.  I think he has us trained!

    1. German Shepherds aren't supposed to like baths. Apparently there's something wrong with Schultz!

    1. Yeah, he's a little odd. Maybe he likes the smell of baby shampoo.

  3. Schultz reminds me of my niece when she was two. She'd climb in her litter box just so she'd get a bath.

  4. Too funny! I'll never forget the time our dog decided to roll in deer poop. We were camping in a brand new RV and Maggie got to be the first one to use the outside shower. Nothing like a little orange beagle covered in green poop! Ack! Mud is so much nicer! ;)

    1. I'm glad Schultz likes baths. It would not be fun having to chase a 100 pound animal around the house to get him into the bath tub!

  7. This was great to read, I used to have a dog and if the word bath was mentioned she'd run and hide.
    Take care.

  8. I think you need to videotape your dog and put him on Youtube.

"Dog that enjoys baths" is going to be the next viral hit.

  9. He's got you trained, and it seems you need to take your family to training school! My dog loved baths as well, but he'd never get one daily, unless we were at the dog park with a shop that bathes dogs. It's not an easy task bathing a big dog.

  10. haha...this is hilarious. All my dogs hate baths (except for the Lab of course. he loves them.) good thing, since he is constantly filthy.

We do baths outside (I'm down in SE GA, where it generally stays warm enough year round to do hose baths. Thank God. I can't imagine trying to keep four dogs clean in our one bathroom.

But, the hose baths mean that three out of my four dogs are known for trying to squish themselves under the couch whenever the hose turns on. haha
