Last Day of School

Today was the last day of school. You'd think my kids would be thrilled about that. Nope. It was a very sad day for my offspring. They came off of the bus with some seriously sad faces. "Mama, it was the worst last day ever," my daughter said. "Well, I'm sorry to hear that. Why do you think that?" "My best friend is moving, and I didn't even get to say goodbye to her." "Oh, that's bad," I said. "Can you call her or email?" "No. She's in a hotel now." Major bummer. "And do you know what else?" she added. "What else?" "Two of my favorite teachers are retiring." Another major bummer. I guess there were lots of tears today. Even my son was sad because some of his friends were moving. Who would've thought that the last day of school could be so traumatic?

  1. Aww, that is sad. I hope they were a little consoled by having a whole fun summer ahead of them.

    1. We had fun on our first day of summer vacation, so I don't think they had any permanent damage from the whole thing.

  2. That sucks, never fun when ones friends all move away, especially at their age.

  3. Poor kids. My son will be done with preschool in two weeks, and he's already sad about not seeing his friends and teachers.

  5. As adults, we sometimes forget how attached little ones are, to their teachers... especially 1st to 3rd graders...

    1. Yes. I saw a lot of teary-eyed first, second, and third graders.

  6. The end of a school year is almost always difficult for kids, especially when they know that the summer will put distance between them and most of their friends. They also know they may never see some of their teachers and friends again.
