My daughter came downstairs this morning with a rather interesting hair-do.
"Why is there a pencil sticking out of your head?" I asked.
"Mom!" she huffed. "Get with the program. Everyone wears pencils in their hair."
I looked at Bubba. "Do you wear pencils in your hair?"
He shook his head. "No, Mama. That's stupid."
I looked at my husband. "Do you wear pencils in your hair?"
"Does it look like I wear pencils in my hair?'
Um, no.
I looked outside at the girl riding her scooter around and around and around. She didn't have a pencil in her hair, either.
I looked at my daughter. "Are you sure you got your facts straight, because I don't see anyone wearing pencils in their hair."
"Mom, every girl in my class wears pencils or sticks in her hair."
Okay, then. I guess it's the new tween fashion trend. Maybe I should put my hair in a bun and shove a pencil through it. Then I'll be cool.
LOL In my day, "everyone" wore her bangs teased as high as they would go and sprayed. Gotta love the eighties!
ReplyDeleteYeah, my hair resembled that in the eighties, too! LOL!
DeleteI think that you should turn this blog, Mama Diaries, into a book. It is funny, inspiratinal, and uplifting. Also, I would like a word of advise on writing. I am a writer also, but I need lots of coaching. Would it be okay?
ReplyDeleteUh, sure. I don't know what kind of coach I'd be, but I'll share what I can. Glad you like the blog!
DeleteI'm sorry, I am horrible at making my point clear. ( Hope I don't sound patronizing.) What I meant was that I'd like a little tip about writing. When I said I needed coaching I meant that I need to take some classes. Oh! I just realized that I didn't leave my name at the end of my other comment, it is Joy. Maybe what I need to take lessons on is makinga point clear!
DeleteShe sounds like a trendsetter! You are definitely out of touch mama. Get with the programme! LOL.
ReplyDeleteSherry, don't do the pencil in the hair thing - please :)
DeleteHahaha! I think I'll stay out of the program. I'd probably get lead poisoning if I start shoving pencils in my hair!
DeleteI've seen a few walking around with pencils in their hair, not many but a few. It's catching.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to keep an eye out for those pencil hair-dos. I want to see just how popular it becomes!
DeleteI agree with joy. PUBLISH the blog, girl. Win that pultzer prize. ;)
ReplyDelete- Madge
P.S. I am a big BIG fan.
Haha! I don't think it would get a Pulitzer prize, but I'm glad you find it entertaining!
DeleteGirls are so much harder than boys to bring up . . . (mother of 3 girls and 1 boy . . . )
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a colleague sitting in an office cubicle in front of me several years ago. She suddenly tied her hair in a bun and stuck a pencil in it. I tried imitating it but I couldn't, my hair is too thin and stick straight, the pencil just keeps sliding off. So hats off to your girl. :) Your blog always brighten my day:)
ReplyDeleteMy teenage granddaughter used to wear two chopsticks in her hair. I was terrified she would fall and impale them in her head. I guess pencils are the in thing now!
ReplyDeleteI do not have a pencil in my hair, but I do have pink and blue streaks. I don't know if I'm cool. Probably not. If you write a book, I want first dibs at being your editor.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I've been wearing pencils in my hair for over 20 years now...tell you're daughter that Mom's are doing it and she just may stop. I'm classy today though, I have a pen in my hair!
