Breakfast of Champions

I believe I may have previously posted about what I eat in the morning for breakfast. It's healthy stuff - chia seeds, granola, dried fruit, etc. My husband calls it, "Rocks and Pebbles."  He has also called it, "Unidentifiable Debris." As mentioned in the previous post, he likes to take a Sharpie marker and label the cereal boxes and bags with these creative titles.

Well, the other day, he brought home a box filled with round things. He took one of the round things out and ate it for breakfast.

My son took one, too.

I looked at the boys. "Dudes, what are you eating?"

"They're called, donuts, Mama. Breakfast of champions," my son said.

I narrowed my eyes and grabbed a Sharpie marker. I drew a skull with crossbones on the box. Then I wrote, "Body Poison. Eat at your own risk."

They just looked at me, laughed, and grabbed another donut. Because obviously, the Mama doesn't know a darn thing about breakfasts of champions.   I shook my head. I'll take my "Strange Edible Mixture of Bird Seed" over donuts any day!

  1. Well, I think I'd take the donut. Although a bagel would be better.

  2. "Body Poison." LOL, love it! I'm not too keen on sweets, so your version of breakfast actually sounds more tempting to me!

    1. People are always amazed that I can resist donuts. I just don't like them. Way too sweet!

  3. So funny, Sherry. You're right about donuts. They'd never make it into our house either. My dad was very strict about what we ate.

  4. I'd take the rocks and pebbles over the donuts these days... they have more flavor anyhow ;-)

  5. Sadly, I would probably grab the donut. Good thing I don't keep any around. ;)

    1. I think when you're used to eating healthy, all the sweet stuff just doesn't taste good.

  6. Hi, dear Sherry!

I'm the health nut in my family, too, and I applaud you for watching what you eat. In spite of the advertising claims, sugar-coated cereals are not good for you and are not "part of a balanced breakfast." Take it from me and the Ten Zany Birds - "Strange Edible Mixture of Bird Seed" is the healthier choice! :)

  9. So would I, Sherry. With five children, I always told my husband if he just had to eat a donut for breakfast, he had to hide to eat it. End of story. Thanks for sharing this. I'm on the blog hop with C. Lee McKenzie, et al. I've joined your blog and will connect with you online.

  10. Hehehe! I have my Greek yogurt. Not as yummy as donuts, but I admit, I am not a donut champion as I once was when I was younger!

  12. Love donuts. But they're better as dessert. Not breakfast.

  15. If I ate a donut for breakfast, I'd feel sick all morning. Ever since I had gestational diabetes with my second child, I've eschewed all carbs for breakfast. I go for the protein -- egg white omelets whenever possible!

  16. I used to write "Do Not Eat" on certain packages of food because I needed them to cook a meal. I felt quite innovative.

    Love,

  17. I'd also prefer trail mix, I mean "rocks and pebbles," as a snack over donuts. These creative nutritional labels in your home are a fun way to encourage healthy eating!
