Cry Baby

I was sitting at my computer, doing my thing (whatever that is), when  I heard a baby crying.  On and on the baby went.  Clearly, he was quite upset.  After ten minutes of listening to this, I wondered why the baby was still outside and why he was still crying.  What's up with this, and where's the Mom? I thought.

I got up to investigate.

I went to the back door.  That's when I saw the baby.  He was on my deck, wailing away

What? you ask.

Yes.  The "baby" was none other than our cat, Bootsy.  Another tom cat had come up on the deck (Bootsy's territory) and parked himself there.  Bootsy was not happy!  It took me a minute to get over the shock that my cat sounded exactly like a human baby. But then I got into mom mode and chased off the intruder.

The baby stopped crying, curled himself in a little ball, and resumed his nap.

Another Mama job well-done!

  1. Greetings human, Sherry,

A cat can easily be mistaken for a baby. Glad you chased of the tom cat. Cats, of course, cry with delight when they see me. Did you know that a fox sounds almost exactly like a human baby crying?

    Pawsitive wishes,

  3. Who ya gonna call - the Mama of course! Some cats do sound like babies, like our Siamese cat neighbors. They sound more like older babies!

  4. We used to have a cat that would come around and cry like that. It could be quite disturbing at times.

  6. My cat bawls like a baby too. Especially when she thinks she is alone. I grew up with cats, but never heard any do that before Lacey.

  7. Way to help your "baby" chase off that intruder.
My wifes friends cat is named Siren. He soundsjust like a police siren. He is a huge tom cat, and he likes to talk a lot.

    1. I think it would drive me crazy if my cat sounded like a siren! Great name for him, though.

  8. Cats really do sound like babies. It's the strangest thing. We have some strays that catch me off-guard with their whining from time to time…until the dog chases them away, that is.

  20. Great job, Sherry! You know exactly what to do when any kind of baby cries. Bootsy must be talented to sound just like a baby and he's lucky to have such a devoted mama.

  21. I just wrote a comment that must have been snatched by the cyber gremlins? Anyway, I hope you got it. This is a test to see. :-)

  22. Okay. The gremlins definitely snatched it. We have barn cats and they sound like babies too. It must be a cat thing. Ha. You are such a wonderful mommy. YaY you! :-)
